Samuel Wurzelbacher, AKA Joe the Plumber, made a serious gaffe last week when he uploaded a campaign ad to YouTube that blamed the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust on gun control. Despite the clear meaning in his video, he went on to claim he wasn't even talking about the holocuast, saying "All I said was gun control was implemented, and then governments proceeded to violate human rights... Nowhere did I mention the Holocaust or was I even talking about it."
I support responsible gun ownership for hunters, target shooters, or people who live in the country and need to plink at Norway rats, gophers, woodchucks, other pests. Country people in rural areas look at a firearm as a tool like a wrench or screw driver that does a different job by eliminating pests. Most civilians can have these ordinary shooting needs met by bolt action rifles with scopes, shotguns, and for immediate personal defense .38 special revolvers. A double barrel shotgun is the best home defense weapon particularly the old burglar gun which was a short barreled Ithaca .20 gauge used by security guards in the 1930's. I think these burglar guns may be too short for federal laws now days but you get the general point. A coach gun is completely legal, either .20 or .12 gauge is short enough at close range to use in a building around corners etc. and at close range will down the biggest attacker. If you hit him with buckshot squarely center mass, buckshot kills everything at close range.
The U.S. Army has used buckshot and buck and ball rounds in every war we have ever fought including the 21st century because at close range nothing beats 12 gauge buckshot. Why do you think the military uses buckshot rounds to this day for the infantry to clear rooms in buildings in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places? Infantry assault squads use special shotguns including the Special Forces for close quarters fighting. If those two shot gun buckshot rounds won't kill that burglar then a six or eight shot .38 special will stop him and his friends. .38's revolvers send plenty of clients to the mortician. All you need to do is practice with your revolver. I emphasize the revolver and the double barrel shotgun because these weapons DON'T FAIL TO SHOOT like semiautomatic and won't jam either. If a double barrel shotgun with buckshot and a .38 revolver are not enough firepower for you stop those burglars for your HOME DEFENSE ONLY, you need to reexamine your lifestyle choices and the types of characters you have interacting with in your life if you need more than a revolver or shotgun to defend your home with. Most home defense situations are very violent, at close range ie bad breath range, and end after two or three shots with one or both the attacker and defender either maimed or dead or else someone runs like hell away from the house. Nobody lives long enough to need a 30 round clip to defend themselves with, unless of course you are a drug gangster, in which you look at the world differently.
I write at length about this stuff because if you do your reading about massacres in the United States you will notice one common aspect: Every single one of the mass murders committed in the United States recently in the last two decades have nearly always involved guns like the 9mm Glock semiautomatic pistol with large ammunition clips typically of 30 rounds. If I remember correctly the gunman at Virginia tech a few years back used .22 magnum semiautomatic rounds to kill an amazing number of people. Again it makes no difference because .22 magnum or 9mm Glock or any other semiautomatics with a large ammunition clips. AK-47's are assault weapons that need to be banned. All of these semiautomatic firearms with large ammo clips are really not necessary for a civilian to own. These are weapons of war for the combat zone. Why do we want to have weapons of war in our country bringing the same types of casualties, and horror found in Iraq and Afghanistan or in 3rd world countries? I think the NRA wants to make America a 3rd world country by its stupid gun laws it promotes from hysteria not facts. No civilian needs these large ammo clips of 30 rounds for the semiautomatic pistol or rifle. Hell, you can fire off 200 rounds and wipe out entire families at the shopping mall before the police even get a chance to respond. We have more than enough mental illness in America to ensure that this goes on for many more years unless we reinstate the assault weapons ban that will at least help the situation overtime.

I will say goodbye to one of the smartest people on TV, and that is Dylan Ratigan. I was an avid viewer of his show. I liked his show because he is smart, and talked about the really important things that we should be doing as a country, but are not. He wasn't there to knock someone else, across the political aisle, or to see how he could outsmart someone on the oppossite side of the political aisle, or to talk about the latest 3 minute soundbite, in the 24-7 news cycle,like everyone else on cable tv.
He is so right about the fact, that we need to stop fighting, and bad mouthing, each other, and stop trying to make our politicians do some of the things that we as a country should be doing. Many of these things are being a more sustainable country, and making alot of it happen ourselves, instead of trying to force our Politicans to do it. He says, like I have stated myself, that our politicans on both sides of the aisle are stuck in their ways on many things, and will not change, because of being bought and paid for. I saw the episode of his show, a couple of months ago, where he went off on a huge rant on this very subject.
He says that we as a country will have to change culturally, about how we feel about the important things, like food, education, and energy, and the climate. I agree that we as a culture, don't get some of this, and we are not going to find it from our Politicans, or on cable shows, or in the media. We will have to take somethings on our selves to move into a future, of sustainable living, in food, education, energy, and others, just like the Germans are doing. They are now leading the world in solar-panels- on their homes, and businesses, etc. These Germans are using solar, and other things to make their own power grid, and then selling that back to the Utility companies. Our Power companies in the states would never stand for this, but there has to be some way of doing it.The United States could do many of the same things, if we weren't sitting on our duffs watching the Kardashians, or those terrible housewives, or the those folks, torch each others charactar on survivor!
Its not the record fillibusters, in the Senate, or some other thing, which keeps us from achieving, our own, independance, its our own selves.
I myself, when I come back to the states, depending what kind of dwelling I live in, am going to grow as much as I can in containers, and have a small green-house-with small plants growing, all year long, so that we can continuously plant things. My husband and I have talked extensively about how we will achieve this, and I cannot wait to get back next year in late August to Washington State, to get started.

Have any of you heard of Bill Whittle? He is saying fast and furious is just a ploy to get the people to go for gun control. He has a youtube vid out and it is filled with so much bs it is sick. I posted a comment back and went after every one of his lies and false statements.
As for this guy and his remarks about the Holocaust I find them so sickening. He is saying that I guess he never heard of the Warsaw uprising. This man needs a lesson in Nazi Germany gun control it didnt cause the Holocaust, but the hate and fear of others caused it and many german jews couldnt except the idea that their native land would turn against them. The germans had gun laws before this and they were only changed after crystal night to exclude jews from owning guns. They also used the list of all gun owners to take away guns from people they wanted to destroy. It is HATE AND FEAR that kills not gun control as we can see in Germany the German people who were deemed German were allowed to have guns didnt do a thing to stop the killing. The germans didnt step forward with their guns to stop the killing of 6 million jews and millions more because of the Hate and Fear that the government has made them believe. I see this same thing happening today with the bs that the tea baggers=gop keep put in there ads. I still believe the saying if you tell a lie enough people will come to believe it and these people are breeding the hate and fear that the Nazi government made the german people have against the Jewish people and others.

Linda, there is nothing wrong with my hearing either, and I know what I heard from this video.. He must think mainstream America is just as stupid as he is. Please give the man a big fat history book of world history, please! Oh! He might just be too stupid to read any of it, though! Its just the same old line, of trying to appeal to the stupid part of America. It is sad that there is 12% of the total population, or even higher, which is stupid America. Really Sad!

Last year, Bloomberg, a Republican, authorized 685,724 stop and frisk orders. Yet a law enforcement research firm has done a study that has concluded that this shakedown has had VIRTUALLY NO EFFECT on the number of gun deaths in the city of New York. It has gone virtually unchanged. Their shakedown tactics and gun grabbing has done nothing but put them in the category of a police state! Isn't that what Joe the Plummer is talking about??? People grabbing your guns for no reason? Why isn't he complaining about Bloomberg????

Who is going whole hog STOP AND FRISK in New York??? Bloomberg! A Republican. Shaking down every brown skinned person they can find on the street for no reason whatsoever except they have brown skin. And taking their guns!! How does the GOP explain that??!! The statistics on the number of stop and frisks they have done in the last several months is mind boggling. That did NOT come from Obama!!

I agree with donnajoy. The NRA owes Obama if anything. Guns and ammo sales have gone through the roof since he was elected, under the false fears that he's going to order a house to house search and take every gun. The only thing he has done is sign a bill allowing guns in National Parks! The paranoia started the day after the inauguration.. The big story was Obama has ordered the halting of ammunition sales!! The reality was, the paranoid crowd bought it all up and created a temporary shortage. It's just another falsehood to discredit this President. Any President, right or left ,knows it's political suicide to take such a drastic measure. It's all part of the 'be afraid' because a non- lilly white Democrat is in the Whitehouse.
Call the President a Socialist, make a gun vid, and you too can become a Congressman. Or, you could quit your job as Governor, then call Obama a quitter, and land a gig on Faux News making big bucks talking in simplistic, no solution, righty terms. Just name call in a shrieky voice, and your in.

It goes to show that the GOP/Tea Party will distort history or the truth to try to scare people into voting for them consciously or subliminally. I must admit Joe's rational for the killing of 6 million Jewish people and others goes totally off the cliff. Plus, read my lips, there have been NO gun control laws passed under the Obama administration. The President has NEVER said that he is for taking away people's guns. This is a lie that the NRA and Tea Party continually attempt to spread since Joe and other Tea Party members cannot run on their own merits. Enough of these lies. What people want is to elect individuals who understand their REAL concerns of JOBS and the ECONOMY. The NRA and right wingers use the gun control issue as a tactic to get people to buy more guns and elect their candidates. It is obvious by this ad that Joe is getting campaign contributions from the NRA lobbyists. There are many gun owners who do not belong to the NRA because of these types of tactics. When the poverty level is so high and people need jobs is it a sad state of affairs when candidates for public office are more focused on winning on scare tactics instead of offering real solutions to our country's problems.
