"Ed Asks...will you march with me?"

Lets all join together and march as "ONE NATION" on Washington October 2nd

ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER

Our nation stands at a critical crossroads. The 30-year drive for a low-wage, high-consumption society that imports more and more of what it consumes has hit the wall.

Millions are unemployed, with little recovery in sight. A record number of Americans who want desperately to work have been jobless for more than 6 months.

At the same time, Wall Street continues to roll up big profits. Banks and corporations have made off with trillions of public dollars, while small businesses can't get loans and cities are being forced to make cuts to public education and public safety, harming our children and our communities.

Obstructionists in Congress are doing everything they can to stop anything that helps working people, and they are scapegoating workers for the demise of the economy. Public sector workers are being cast as selfish, auto workers are being blamed for the troubles of the auto industry, and teachers are being blamed for an education system in need of support.

Working people are frustrated and angry-incensed by the government's inability to halt massive job loss and declining living standards on the one hand, and the comparative ease with which Republicans in Congress, with help from some Democrats, have done their best to make the world safe again for JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and CitiGroup, on the other.

Just as we have seen through history, fear mongers in our country have seized on that anger and are working hard -- unfortunately with some success--to use justifiable anger about a failing economy to divide us.

We have to fight this hateful demagoguery that only benefits our foes, and we can't do it alone. History has taught us that the best way to fight the forces of hatred is to address the economic policies that led to our economic suffering, and that our fight must draw its strength from an alliance of the poor and the middle class-everyone who works for a living.

It is against this backdrop that we join ONE NATION.

ONE NATION is a multi-racial, civil and human rights movement whose mission is to reorder our nation's priorities to invest in our nation's most valuable resource - our people.

The organizations that have come together to form ONE NATION believe that our goal should be a future of shared prosperity, not stubborn unemployment and a lost generation. Workers should be able to share in the wealth they create, and everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve the American Dream - a secure job; the chance for our children to get a great public education and the opportunity to make their own way in the world; and laws that protect us, not oppress us.

ONE NATION is a long-term effort to reverse the dangerous economic course of our country over the past four decades. It brings together organizations from across the progressive spectrum-labor, civil rights, environmental, faith and many others-recognizing that none of us alone have been able to achieve our priorities, whether they are large-scale job creation, labor law reform, immigration reform, investing in public education or other concerns, and that we will not realize change until these priorities belong to all of us.

ONE NATION shares the labor movement's policy agenda: An economy that works for all; good jobs, fair jobs, safe jobs, and more jobs; reforming Wall Street; repairing our immigration system; quality education for every child; and ensuring that everyone in America has the opportunity to contribute to and strengthen our country. Restoring workers' rights to organize and bargain collectively is at the heart of the policy agenda.

The ONE NATION march on Washington on October 2, 2010 will charge up an army of tens of thousands of activists who will return to their neighborhoods, churches, schools and, especially, voting booths, with new energy to enact our common agenda. And on the same day, the labor movement will walk door-to-door in targeted states around the country, bringing the same message to union members exactly one month before the fall elections.

The march aims to bring working people, young people, retirees, civil rights activists and many others together on the Mall to show the obstructionists in Congress that we are many and diverse, strong and that united-and we will fight together for the American Dream.

Many of our unions are already committed to work as a part of ONE NATION. The unions of the AFL-CIO proudly join this coalition and pledge to work collectively to add our support to this great effort.

Working people can make a difference when we rely on ourselves and act collectively. We are America. And together we can make our voices heard.

Sen. Bernie Sanders says they should stay in Washington, DC till they fix the problem.

Give me your thoughts...

comments Comments:

Democrats and Publicans can drop $60,000,000,000.00 ($60Billion) more money for Afgan war (most of which will go to the MIC), yet they can't get $30 Billion for Small Business'? Which IS PAID FOR unlike the WAR FUNDING!

and THAT is not UN-AMERICAN and UN-PATRIOTIC?

Ed,
Next time your Conservative guest comes on your show. We all know they will say the words ("Tax Cuts" while bringing up creating jobs) & ("Confidence" while bringing up Regulations). That is one of the old words in their scripted playbook & one of the new words. I challenge you Big Eddie to ask them if they have an independent thought. When you ask them a question, we already know how they will answer it word for word. They are like Androids ore-programed to say certain words & afraid to express an independent thought. They always broad-brush the term "small business" & broad-brush the term "tax cuts".
The fairy tale about the banks sitting on money because they lost their confidence is a big joke. How can they say that with a serious face? It is unbelievable the media lets them get buy with a lame justification like that. The Banks are sitting on the money because they don't want jobs to be created or the economy to blossom under Democratic Leadership. They have the money along with the power over our Government that the money gives them & the time to play the stall game until the next elections so they have nothing to worry about. Why the hell did we bail them out in the first place? I would rather have let the greedy (un-Patriot_un-American) banksters fail or at least make them pay back every dime they received back to the tax payer. America could have started out with a new system. Why was it a hand-out (bail-out) instead of a loan with Interest in the first place? Oh, ya George Bush was in President at the time.

Posted by M, Fargo

Two points M,

We STILL can start out with a new system! I would like to see that BUZZ start spreading around the airwaves
(little help on that Ed? Thank you in advance)
They certainly can't do us any more damage.

and secondly, why is this administration not FLEXING TEIR MUSCLES with these banks? That is what also needs to go VIRAL.

These Banks and Corporations holding this Government and by extension; its people HOSTAGE (and make no mistake, that is what is going on) is BULLSH**! There is NO GOOD ENDING TO THAT STORY.

BOLD LEADERSHIP IS NEED NOW!

Expose, expose, expose. They ARE UN-AMERICAN TO ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE.

------
PS Did you here about the METLIFE INS CO. vs DEAD VETERANS SCAM? Another UN-AMERICAN CORPORATION!

I just can't get over the conservative new term "Confidence". Lets get the newest Republican talking point story straight. The banksters & Wall Street fat cats got their feelings hurt because President Obama held them accountable for greedy risky behavior that ruined our economy. As a result of being held accountable for what happened they lost their confidence. "There is more", besides they got their feelings hurt & lost their confidence. They are sitting on a pile of money given to them by the tax payers. The economy is hurting, Americans are unemployed competing for jobs that are not there because the banksters got their feelings hurt & lost their confidence & won't let the money go. They just can't stop sitting on that stock pile of money with hurt feelings & lost confidence while having rules & regulations to follow. What a freaking joke! How the hell do they think America or the media is going to take this seriously! What is going on people! Wake Up! Pay attention! Demand more than a lame-a$$ story like that! That is the story every Conservative leader & talker is going with! How is that possible! It is about as believable as the monster ate my homework story! As an American Tax Payer & Citizen I demand more than that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by M, Fargo

I agree with you completely Mich. Your statements said it perfectly & we need your questions answered. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say on the topic & other topics. We need Big Change! The current system is corrupt & the powerful corporations are calling the shots in Washington! Our system is driven by greed!

In my opinion why is this administration not FLEXING THEIR MUSCLES with these banks?
Two points. They Democrats are competing dollar for dollar with the Conservatives. They are under the influence of the all-mighty-dollar.
The Democrats fold & go to their knees giving in to the Republicans before the debate even begins. They give in & compromise before the process even starts. We saw that with single payer. Democratic leadership lacks guts. Everything is just too hard. They just can't get the votes. The Democrats should have changed the filibuster rule before Congress went into its first session when they only needed simple majority to change it. Every Progressive blogger told them the Republicans were the PARTY OF NO & Obstructionists & bipartisanship was a complete waist of American time. Yet the White House & Harry Reid did not listen to those who got them elected & acted surprised that the Republicans were not interested in governing. They still don't get it & they are still ignoring the base.

Posted by M, Fargo

My honest opinion: The Democrats put themselves in the position to be in the 60 vote culture. The Republicans announced their playbook even before the Waterloo comment. I knew it, I blogged it all the time. How could the Democrats go into the first senate session of congress & not change the filibuster rules knowing that the Republicans were on a mission to Obstruct & Destroy in order to create a log-jam in congress. That is when a simple majority vote establishes the senate rules "before congress officially goes into session". IF you wait to do it later, you need a super majority vote unless you use the nuclear "constitutional" option. That is my understanding. If I am wrong can someone correct me?

Posted by M, Fargo

Senator Reid should keep the Senate in session. There is no reason to not pass the $30 billion bill for aid for small business. The Senate should just stay until they pass this and other filibustered bills. I do not care if they stay all through labor make those damn Republicans suffer for their positions. Just keep the Senate in session until these bills to help Americans get passed. The GOP is nothing but hypocritical on this issue for they want to extend the Bush era tax cuts permanently at a cost of about $3 trillion in extra dollars added to our national debt of $13 trillion. Tax cuts for the richest top two percent of households in America is fine but $30 billion for aid to small businesses that do most of the hiring in America is too much money because of the deficit. Does anyone see something wrong with this arithmetic? I won't even comment about the $60 billion in war funding for Afghanistan because that arithmetic includes imaginary numbers.

Republican Playbook (talking points you will repeatedly hear)
1. "Feelings Hurt" Obama was just too tough on them & blamed them for the financial collapse
2. Lost their "Confidence" because the rules & regulations are just too tough
3. "Afraid" to invest & lend as a result of losing their "confidence" after getting their "feelings hurt" under the strict "regulations" & "micro-managed"
4. The "tax increases" or "not extending" the Bush "Tax cuts" are "job killers"
5. "Nobody" should have their "taxes raised" during a recession or now is "not the time to raise taxes" The weak kneed Democrats will play follow the leader on this one. They even have Kent Conrad saying it. I predict the tax cuts will be extended as part of an extension for some bi-partisan bill. It will be the PORK attached to something else.

The conservative talkers & Republican leaders are just so predictable. This is their script (playbook) & this is what they have been saying all month. I guarantee this is what you will repeatedly have to listen to for many more months to come. This is how they will answer all questions on the topic. Can anyone add anymore scripted predictions to the list? I know I have a lot more.

I meant to say "stay in session through the Labor day weekend" my typo.

Earlier on this site, Germany was used as an example of a forward thinking country when it came their use of solar/wind power.
Could they right on this?
Note Japan's experience in the1990's is noted as well.
Also, what do you think about the "Alternative Minimum Tax" problem, is it worth any concern?
Your thoughts as to why these positions are wrong based on the article, not using the blame game or personal attacks, please.

Letting Bush Tax Cuts Die Would Kill Recovery: Analysts

By: Jeff Cox
CNBC.com Staff Writer , (not FOX NEWS or the WSJ)

The nascent US economic recovery would be halted in 2011 if Congress fails to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, analysts at Deutsche Bank said.

The cuts were enacted in 2001 and 2003 under President George W. Bush and covered those earning more than $250,000, but they are set to expire at the end of this year.

Deutsche said the drag on gross domestic product should they lapse could be as much as 1.5 percent, with the more likely impact at 1.1 percent.

The impact would be worse, the analysts said, if Congress fails to fix the Alternative Minimum Tax, which was enacted in 1969 to make sure rich people pay taxes but was never indexed for inflation, and thus is now hitting middle-income workers.

"In a worst-case scenario, allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire and failing to fix the AMT could result in (1.5 percent) of fiscal drag in 2011 on top of the 1 percent fiscal drag we expect to occur as the Obama fiscal stimulus package unwinds," Deutsche said in a note to clients. "If the recovery remains soft/tentative through early next year, this additional drag could be enough to push the economy to a stalling point."

The opinion runs counter to that of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who said earlier this week that allowing the cuts to expire would not cause the economy to re-enter recession. The administration has proposed letting most of the tax cuts stand, but eliminating the ones for the top-tier earners.

Deutsche compared the situation to Japan in the 1990s, when the government let tax cuts expire and cut stimulus, leading to another leg down in the recession and ensuring the nation's "lost decade" of no economic growth.

While the US is headed toward unmanageable debt levels, now is not the time to start tightening the money supply, the analysts said.

"As soon as the economic recovery does look reasonably well entrenched, indeed, preferably even sooner, plans will need to be made to begin to put the US fiscal position on a more sustainable course," Deutsche said.

"As we have noted, this is not going to be an easy process politically, and it may well take a significant negative event in financial markets to steer the US political system to do what needs to be done."

show Ed this and have him ask those Republicans if they want to send the border patrol to Iraq and deport our soldiers?????????????????

US Army Lures Foreigners with Promise of Citizenship

By Cordula Meyer in Washington

10/22/07 "SPIEGEL" -- -- -More than 30,000 foreign troops are enlisted in the US Army, many of them serving in Iraq. Their reward for risking their lives for their adopted country is US citizenship.

When Anna Maria Clarke, 26, was a teenager living in the western German city of Mannheim, she already had a weakness for smart uniforms, particularly on American soldiers, and for war movies like "Full Metal Jacket." It was an attraction that Clarke, a German citizen, felt early on and still feels today.

The parents of 25-year-old Julieta Ortiz immigrated to the United States from Mexico City, dirt-poor but ambitious. They worked hard picking strawberries in California, determined that their daughter would have a better life. Four years ago, Julieta suddenly found a way to that better life -- a difficult path, but one that would lift her out of the poverty of her childhood.

Jose Figueira, 31, spent much of his life listening to his father proudly recount his experiences as a soldier in the Portuguese army. Figueira, who grew up in Massachusetts, yearned to have something he could be just as proud of. "I wanted to prove that I'm a good citizen, that I'm willing to stand up for everything I love about this country."

They may have different reasons for joining the US Armed Forces, but all three are now among the more than 30,000 foreign soldiers fighting for America -- not as Americans, but as a Mexican, a Portuguese and even a German. Without its foreign soldiers, the United States would have trouble coming up with enough troops to meet the demand in Iraq. The foreigners, for their part, take the dangerous job mainly for its biggest reward: US citizenship.

Since Sept. 11, 2001, the United States has granted US citizenship to 32,500 foreign soldiers. In July 2002, US President George W. Bush issued an executive order to expand existing legislation to offer a fast track to citizenship to foreigners who agree to fight for the US Armed Forces. About 8,000 non-Americans have joined the US military every year since then.

Fox News & the conservative media were a on a mission all week to criticize President Obama for going on the View. FAUX NEWS repeatedly criticized him for not meeting with the Boy Scouts instead. Lets Now look back to President Obama's Address to Students Across America September 8, 2009. President Obama addressed the schools with a message about staying in school, working hard and achieving educational goals. FAUX & Rush Limbaugh were on a fear mongering mission to criticize Obama for with this message: Obama is trying to indoctrinate students with his socialist agenda. They compared him to Hitler. Now FOX NEWS & Rush are criticizing him for not speaking to the Boy Scouts. Big Eddie, can you break out the sound clips & video clips from 2009 & contrast them to the current fear mongering. The conservative media is clearly on a mission of seek & destroy the President through fear mongering. I hope you take requests Big Eddie because I find this very hypocritical & it clearly points to Nothing President Obama does will make the conservative happy!

Posted by M, Fargo

The President is a public official and needs to make himself or herself available to a variety of different media and audiences. Conservatives hate President Obama. It does not matter what he does or says or accomplishes they just hate him. Maybe what they really hate about him is the fact that the White Anglo Saxon Protestant, WASP, hold on America is starting to slip. But has it really? President Obama is a Harvard trained Constitutional law professor. So President Obama from his background epitomizes WASP values by his education and hard work to succeed. The "radical" health care reform plan he passed in Congress was mostly introduced by "WASP" former-President Nixon over 40 years ago. Most of President Obama's policies are mostly "centrist" by nature. He hates arguments and nasty fights and would rather reach consensus wherever possible. The only thing wrong with President Obama is that he is too much of a thoughtful gentleman towards his Republican enemies. The man is still hoping beyond hope that the GOP will embrace his approach. They won't so lets beat them in November.

"The Nation" recently had a "Freedom from Oil" issue. An excellent idea proposed by Christian Parenti in his article "The Big Green Buy" is to use the governments purchasing power to jump start firms like Smith Electric Truck company in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Parenti argues that we do not need anymore breakthrough technology to get green technology going what we need is prolonged implementation. The US Federal government spends about $3.6 trillion per year. State and local governments spend at least one-third of the federal budget. State and local governments also run buildings and have significant vehicle fleets. The federal vehicle fleet numbers about 650,000 vehicles. The US government leases 430,000 buildings. Most of the Defense Department vehicles are commercial cars and trucks. Many of these fleet vehicles are lucky to get driven at most 100 miles per week or less. Army trucks and national Guard trucks sit in the motor pool for long periods of time maybe get driven for short periods only and they often go back to the same parking spot at night. The US Postal Service drives its local fleet vehicles no more than 20 miles per day. Smith electric trucks can go 120 miles on a single charge at 50 MPH would fit the needs of well over three-fourths of the vehicles for the Army, National Guard, and Post Office.

Smith electric truck company does not need to wait for the next evolution in battery technology. Existing battery technology is ENTIRELY ADEQUATE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE GOVERNMENT. WHAT SMITH ELECTRIC TRUCK COMPANY NEEDS ARE ORDERS FOR ELECTRIC TRUCKS. The same can be said for putting geothermal and solar panels on those 430,000 buildings. Most of these buildings should also be weatherized and highly insulated too. So to go green we need to get the government to use its purchasing power to buy electric trucks, electric cars, and electric hybrid vehicles for its vehicle fleets. At least 75% of the federal vehicle fleet could be electric or electric hybrid. The federal government needs to get stern with state, city and local governments and force them to get at least half or more of their vehicle fleets into electric or electric hybrids. The same must also happen for buildings. Insulation, solar panels, wind turbines, and highly efficient heating and cooling systems must be installed on all government buildings. Do not forget those local school districts either because electric buses and solar panels can also work on school buildings too.

This strategy will not cost anymore than we ARE ALREADY SPENDING FOR CONVENTIONAL VEHICLES AND BUILDING MAINTENANCE COSTS. In fact these are what economists call FIXED COSTS. Smith electric truck company's CEO can open up those 20 new plants if he GETS THE ORDERS FOR THE TRUCKS. Bankers look at cash flow when lending money. Orders on a contract constitute cash flow. The other thing is that electric trucks and vehicles will come down drastically in price because of what economists call THE ECONOMY OF SCALE. The government should buy these electric vehicles as fast as they can be built. Once federal, state, local, and school districts all across the country by solar panels for buildings the private sector will almost immediately follow suit. Once the private sector begins to follow the government lead then more infrastructure for electric vehicles, battery shops and lots of plug-in charging stations will naturally follow.

The way forward on energy policy is to get the government to use its purchasing power to buy electric and electric hybrid vehicles. President Obama needs to call up General Motors executive and say "We'll buy those 10,000 Chevy Volts for the Army and the other military services need another 30,000 Chevy Volts next year". Then President Obama needs to call up the CEO of Smith electric truck and say "build those extra 20 plants because the US government will buy every truck you can produce for the next ten years. Then he does this for the solar panel industry and wind industry. Then the governors of all 50 states need to call Smith electric truck company too. Then Ford, GM, Navistar and everyone else who wants to sell trucks will introduce their own designs and the competition will drive the price down even further and the quality up. See where I am going with this?

Much of this is already being done by executive order. The beauty of all of this is that there is not ONE DAMN THING THE CONSERVATIVES CAN DO TO STOP IT. You can not filibuster an executive order. Once the next President takes over, the programs will start to pay for themselves. If the US Post Office buys Smith electric trucks its cost for deliveries will shrink immediately by 75% per mile in fuel and maintenance savings that electric trucks will offer them. Even the next conservative president will see these savings in government costs and order more electric trucks and solar panels. Then the days of Big Oil will be gone forever.

After 7 weeks of hoping and praying that the Senate would pass the Unemployment Extension bill, finally they did it. Once the bill was sent back to the House the next day it was passed by the House and quickly sent over to the President so he could sign it so the money the Unemployed needed so desperately.
This bill was signed on the 21st of July if I am not mistaken.
Well it's now been 10 days since then and here in Nevada no one has been given a cent and are being told it could take as long as 4 weeks before we get any help!

Harry Reid is a huge failure. Most all needed legislation is held up in the Senate. Sen Reid is not the man for the job. The Senate needs a bold, take no prisoners style LEADER in the Senate.

Rep Weiner said it great earlier, "you don't go into a knife fight with library books". Reid is out of his league in this environment. We need a pitbull.

Reid is a huge disappointment. FIRE HIM and put a Dem in there that knows how to FIGHT for the people.

I ran out of UI back in March .... I have never sat on my butt and wait for mine - I am out of money, and have no faith in our elected officials to even consider me. I am a 52 year old technology professional with 24 years of experience and have had one interview in the last four months ... My car is on the way to repossession, my home and everything else is in jeopardy ... I will stay in action as long as I am able. All the talk is great - but I have not seen any leanings towards action to help folks like me.

4 MILLION FORECLOSURES THIS YEAR FOLKS.
Try to get your minds around that, and all of the human devastation that goes with it. Seriously.

I cannot believe this administration and these Democrats are allowing the very banks we bailed out to foreclose on all of these families. 4 Million housing units equate to approximately 11-12 Million people HOMELESS!

Jeane, Jefferson City, MO: The Obama administration actually has issued several executive orders that require federal agencies and the Defense department to reduce their consumption of diesel fuel by 2020. This issue is also in the minds of many military officers. Convoys in Iraq full of fuel have been major targets for roadside bombs killing hundreds of soldiers driving the fuel trucks. Many planners for the military have commented on the need to reduce the long vulnerable and expensive supply lines. The military has been using solar photovoltaic cells for electric generators in garrison to reduce fuel for generators. Many high ranking military officers with combat experience are very concerned about reducing the usage of diesel fuel. To try and answer your question I think that corporate myopia and an overload of crisis caused by the recession has dampened enthusiasm for electric vehicles. Besides if you were receiving $1.5 million or more for reelection like Senator Landrieu you might support Big Oil too.

The need to transform our trucking industry was demonstrated by the Picken's plan that calls for conversion of 18 wheeled trucks to natural gas. The point is that most of our retail trade is moved by 18 wheeled trucks. If diesel fuel spikes up to $7 or $8 per gallon like it could during a Middle East crisis grocery prices and other retail staples hauled by 18 wheeled tractor trucks will go up right along with the fuel surcharges imposed by trucking firms. Not only will American consumers pay more for fuel for cars but retail goods and groceries will spike up too.

Remember, we have two wars going on right now. We have had no real incentives to convert to electric trucks in large part because of the influence of huge oil corporations. The government has been preoccupied with these and Wall Street bailouts, TARP, the auto industry, and a host of recession related problems. We have had very little battery and electric vehicle manufacturing in America accept for golf carts, the GEM motor company, and some limited commercial experiments. In the meantime China, India and other countries like Brazil are industrial powerhouses. China and India have no oil reserves and are aggressively seeking out oil reserves around the globe.

Conservatives find electric trucks laughable even though the final straw that broke the back of our economy in 2008 was the $4 to $5 diesel fuel. This scenario will most likely happen again. The Middle East and Africa are unstable places. It will take time to change 250 million vehicles to electrics, electric hybrids, and advanced technology turbo-diesel cars that are used by Europeans some models that get over 50 MPG. Turbo-diesels are another way to go especially because bio diesel fuels are very clean. It may take another Yom Kippur war scenario too switch America over. But don't worry the catalyst will come we are at Peak Oil and will be running out of oil or affordable oil in the coming decades. Write your Congressman. We need a comprehensive energy policy very, very badly in this country.

The DEMS need to step up and do whatever is necessary to get the 99ers squared away. They have the Majority of People on their side. Faux is having more difficulty turning people against programs that will be in their interest. More people are looking up info on their own, getting FACTS from different sources, and blogs where you get opinions from cross sections of All Americans. I know the DEMS still are Shellshocked from in the past when RUSH and the GANG would turn people against them and their Ideas, and hang a Label on them. DEMS Step up and make a BOLD move because the Majority are with you. The REPS need to take a BEATING this fall from the American People to show them they Reject their Tactics that hold all of us hostage for their Agenda. If that happens that may start to make BOTH parties realize that the American People are tired of this back and forth game, and want things done in their Interest and Country.

It would be nice if conservatives would start to grow up and act like adults. To pay for those extended Bush tax cuts we should cut all military deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Then we need to cut all federal spending on roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in states that voted for John McCain. Red states are subsidized by Blue states. So let us also cut all Medicare, Medicaid, and all military bases in the Red states that voted for John McCain. Then maybe we can start to pay for those extended Bush tax cuts worth well over two trillion dollars. These tax cuts were paid for by borrowing money from countries like China.

There is absolutely no explanation about why the Bush tax cuts worth over $1.5 trillion should be extended any longer. Estimates of making the Bush tax cuts permanent are at being a minimum of $2 trillion over the next coming years until 2020. Others analysts put the figure higher. These tax cuts went mostly to the benefit of the very wealthy especially the upper two percent of households. We have two wars that were started under a Republican president. Iraq will cost long term about $3 trillion in long term costs as verified by Professor Linda Bilmes and Nobel prize winning economist Joe Stiglitz in their book "The Three Trillion dollar war." Our current budget deficit is $1.4 trillion and our national debt is at $13 trillion.

The Republicans are playing a very selfish dangerous game. They bitch and complain about passing extended unemployment benefits worth about $30 billion. Now they are filibustering a small business loan program that will help ease tight credit for borrowers. This total package was around $30 billion as well. Afghanistan war funding worth $60 billion was passed with almost all Republicans in the House voting affirmative. Now the GOP wants to claim that returning tax rates to where they were under the Clinton administration on the richest top two percent of households will be the end our economy as we know it.

This is a debate the country should have do we want our kids and grand kids paying for our tax cuts now while we have two Republican wars going on? The upper two percent of house holds have NOT SACRIFICED ANYTHING DURING A TIME OF TWO ONGOING WARS. Republicans only care about the wealthy and the rich corporate elite. They do not care about budget deficits they helped create with their bogus tax breaks, deregulation of Wall Street investment banks, and wars that were started on their watch. They are pathetic hypocrites who do not care about the average worker on Main Street. Remember, their policies helped create they Sub-prime mortgage meltdown. If we had regulated our banks like Canada did we would not have had to pay Wall Street bankers over $4 trillion in Federal Reserve bailouts and $780 billion for TARP. Republicans are all about privatizing profits for the corporate elite and socializing their liabilities and losses with taxpayer funded bailouts. Republican policies mean broken infrastructure will not get fixed and our national debt will increase greatly. They do not want a balanced budget they are out to destroy all government programs that tens of millions of Americans rely on.
