"Ed Asks...will you march with me?"

Lets all join together and march as "ONE NATION" on Washington October 2nd

ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER

Our nation stands at a critical crossroads. The 30-year drive for a low-wage, high-consumption society that imports more and more of what it consumes has hit the wall.

Millions are unemployed, with little recovery in sight. A record number of Americans who want desperately to work have been jobless for more than 6 months.

At the same time, Wall Street continues to roll up big profits. Banks and corporations have made off with trillions of public dollars, while small businesses can't get loans and cities are being forced to make cuts to public education and public safety, harming our children and our communities.

Obstructionists in Congress are doing everything they can to stop anything that helps working people, and they are scapegoating workers for the demise of the economy. Public sector workers are being cast as selfish, auto workers are being blamed for the troubles of the auto industry, and teachers are being blamed for an education system in need of support.

Working people are frustrated and angry-incensed by the government's inability to halt massive job loss and declining living standards on the one hand, and the comparative ease with which Republicans in Congress, with help from some Democrats, have done their best to make the world safe again for JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and CitiGroup, on the other.

Just as we have seen through history, fear mongers in our country have seized on that anger and are working hard -- unfortunately with some success--to use justifiable anger about a failing economy to divide us.

We have to fight this hateful demagoguery that only benefits our foes, and we can't do it alone. History has taught us that the best way to fight the forces of hatred is to address the economic policies that led to our economic suffering, and that our fight must draw its strength from an alliance of the poor and the middle class-everyone who works for a living.

It is against this backdrop that we join ONE NATION.

ONE NATION is a multi-racial, civil and human rights movement whose mission is to reorder our nation's priorities to invest in our nation's most valuable resource - our people.

The organizations that have come together to form ONE NATION believe that our goal should be a future of shared prosperity, not stubborn unemployment and a lost generation. Workers should be able to share in the wealth they create, and everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve the American Dream - a secure job; the chance for our children to get a great public education and the opportunity to make their own way in the world; and laws that protect us, not oppress us.

ONE NATION is a long-term effort to reverse the dangerous economic course of our country over the past four decades. It brings together organizations from across the progressive spectrum-labor, civil rights, environmental, faith and many others-recognizing that none of us alone have been able to achieve our priorities, whether they are large-scale job creation, labor law reform, immigration reform, investing in public education or other concerns, and that we will not realize change until these priorities belong to all of us.

ONE NATION shares the labor movement's policy agenda: An economy that works for all; good jobs, fair jobs, safe jobs, and more jobs; reforming Wall Street; repairing our immigration system; quality education for every child; and ensuring that everyone in America has the opportunity to contribute to and strengthen our country. Restoring workers' rights to organize and bargain collectively is at the heart of the policy agenda.

The ONE NATION march on Washington on October 2, 2010 will charge up an army of tens of thousands of activists who will return to their neighborhoods, churches, schools and, especially, voting booths, with new energy to enact our common agenda. And on the same day, the labor movement will walk door-to-door in targeted states around the country, bringing the same message to union members exactly one month before the fall elections.

The march aims to bring working people, young people, retirees, civil rights activists and many others together on the Mall to show the obstructionists in Congress that we are many and diverse, strong and that united-and we will fight together for the American Dream.

Many of our unions are already committed to work as a part of ONE NATION. The unions of the AFL-CIO proudly join this coalition and pledge to work collectively to add our support to this great effort.

Working people can make a difference when we rely on ourselves and act collectively. We are America. And together we can make our voices heard.

It is about companies on this side of the border. Everybody knows it. But again, God forbid we stand up and do the Patriotic thing and stand up for AMERICA and those in this country 'legally" regardless of their accent or the color of their skin. Why is that so difficult? If you do business in this country you hire the people that are legally here.

It is all about the companies, not a fence, not more troops on the border, not an $800 Million dollar surveillance systems. LAWS must be put in place to MAKE COMPANIES in America check the legality of an applicant prior to hiring them. SIMPLE ENOUGH. Come on this is a no brainer. But it take Backbone.

The Conservative Plan Top 10 List straight from their playbook: 1. (Recruit another Bush) The Republican Party wants another Pres George Bush in charge. 2. The Big Banks want another George Bush guarding the hen house so they are sitting on a Pile of money courtesy of the 700 billion dollar taxpayer bail out fund. 3. Wall Street wants another George Bush so they can run a muck of the United States & ruin our economy (but they will still have it good; they feel entitled). 4. They want a Fox guarding the Hen House! 5. The conservative strategy to get another George Bush back in charge is to obstruct, create a logjam in the congress, keep the Democrats from governing & make America fail under President Obama's watch. 6. Offer No Solutions; the conservatives offer no solutions or legitimate ideas to move this country forward. They just like it the way it was & want to go backwards. 7. Back to the Bush years of failure & record debt & outsourcing American jobs. 8. "Drill Baby Drill"; No to technology & green energy jobs & energy policy. 9. No to rebuilding our American infrastructure (conservatives just love being decades behind the rest of the world). 10. (Get the Fake Glenn Beck fake tears & low self esteem out); Big Business, banks & Wall Street cry that they got their feelings hurt & now they just have no confidence.

Just as I believe Ed has found a huge void among the media, whereas most pay virtually no mind to the average working (AND NOW NON WORKING) man and women in this country, I think most thoroughly appreciate and truly respect his passion on the subjects;

wouldn't it be nice if a "group" of Patriots formed a lending system to provide all of the needed financial products that the "Banksters" of late have chosen not to provide the hard working Americans and America's small business'. (only inside this country) I believe there is a huge opportunity to both help America and become one of the "Good Guy Bankers".

I think I might develop a little something along those lines - I am disgusted at the UN-AMERICAN behavior of the current BIG money operator thieves.

We need to do the following to get our country on track:
We need to get a huge infrastructure jobs bill passed so that over a ten to twenty year period the estimated backlog of $2.2 trillion from the American Society of Civil Engineers can be caught up. We need to invest in Green technology with an Apollo energy program that gets us permanently off of imported oil. Both of these things can help produce good paying middle class jobs for America. We also must spend money to help with retraining of laid off workers so they learn new job skills. Infrastructure and conversion to Green energy technology such as electric vehicles and solar and wind are the cornerstones of building a modern economy. Europe is far ahead of America in green technology and China is spending more on solar and wind technology than we are. We must adopt the Picken's plan immediately and then greatly expand other technologies such as biomass, coal gasification, possibly new types of nuclear. The country has to have a debate about these technologies and decide the best way forward because substantial investments must be made if we are to reduce carbon emissions and escape the trap of imported OPEC oil.

The way to pay for all of this necessary priorities is really pretty straight forward. We must realize that we need a much faster exit strategy out of Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to seriously lay off most of the contractors for the military. These contractors are too damn expensive at $100,000 per year while an enlisted soldier makes less than half that much for the same work. We must eliminate the Bush tax cuts. There must be a serious change in our trade policies with China and other countries to protect and promote American manufacturing jobs. We must close those corporate tax shelters in the Caymen Islands. Lastly we must sell "infrastructure bonds" similar to war bonds to pay for our infrastructure needs. We are not going to have a 21st century economy with deteriorating 20th century infrastructure that is 50 or more years old and falling apart at an ever faster rate.

Personally I think the Arizona law is awful policy. But we really need to stay focused on doing the things we have to expand our economy and rebuild our infrastructure. We must get rid of imported OPEC oil because this is the next economic disaster waiting to strike America. If we get our economy growing again maybe the worry about "illegal Mexican workers" can change to "please come to our country" because we have more jobs to fill than we have able bodied workers. Green energy investment, reduction of our defense budget, and huge investment into upgrading our infrastructure will make the current debate about immigration seem like a mute point. Let us rebuild the middle class again in this country. The only way to do this is to totally reset our priorities which President Obama is trying hard to do against tough odds.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

I believe everything Rex suggested above with frankly the only 2 exceptions being his last sentence: President Obama's real to work sincerely toward the areas of need as Rex stated, and not to get long winded - I'll just say he can move forward when he has surrounded himself with advisor from the past. And secondly, I think Rex mentioned a 10-20 year timeline, I think that needs to be cut in half and moved up.

But to do what he suggests, we need honest dedicated public servants - we need to replace about 476 members of Congress to "reset" that institution.
(just 1 example: Charlie Rangel; this guy may actually keep his seat!#$%?!)

meant to say - (typos) I'll just say he can't move forward when he has surrounded himself with advisors from the past.

It might do some in this nation to instead not mock an effort that truly offered enormous relief, but to join in and become "doers" and feel a sense of pride. Everyone involved in this video were doers, their "art" was and is amazing, they were masters of their craft and none got there by not giving their all. It was a volunteer project.

Apply that feeling to an America in need today.

It is about the employers, but I believe a troop presence on the borders would help at this time. It's not just about Jose crossing the border looking for a picking job anymore. The drug lords have invaded and are getting bolder all the time in this country. They are growing weed all over the country, kidnapping people, and have a meth lab next door to you. Pakistan is playing us for fools and taking our billions in aid, while selling us out to the enemy. We need to get out of Afghanistan. If they do not want to defend their own country, let the Taliban have it. At least we'd know where they all are. I'm sick to death of this country being at 'war' somewhere around the globe. We cannot afford it anymore, and the last I checked we haven't won much since WW11. This country has got to start taking care of it's own business, quit sending billions in aid to third world nations that always ends up in the wrong pockets, and get real with our borders.

If the Feds trump Arizona law, they now have to produce. Just signing more paper won't get it done.

It is about protecting the borders, it is about a streamlined path to citizenship, it is about cracking down on the employers, it is about a temporary guest worker programs & etc. The Arizona law has not solved any of those issues, but instead takes away our freedoms & liberties. Racial profiling will happen. It infringes on the constitutional rights of those who are here legally. Why are the Republicans throwing away the constitution on this one? Why aren't they crying about the government infringing on our liberties & freedoms. Don' tell me that so called big government & law officials won't abuse this law & infringe on the freedoms & liberties of those who are here legally (even white people). The infringement on you freedoms goes beyond just racial profiling. They can abuse this law to detain anyone until they can provide proof of citizenship (even innocent people).

Rush Limbaugh is an idiot & anyone who listens to him (ditto).
Rush is trash talking General Motors & the production of the Chevy Volt. Rush wants the manufacturing industry in this country to fail. Rush wants American companies to play follow the leader at a snails pace; he doesn't want America to be the leader in technology or in anything. Un-American Limbaugh would rather see our foreign competitors build the advanced technology cars over there & ship them here. If General motors & the American auto manufacturers do not move forward & build electric cars; (you guessed it China, Japan, Korea, etc. are already making them) we will lose another manufacturing industry. It won't be long until the gasoline motor will be nearly obsolete & no longer in demand. The American auto manufacturer will be left with products that they can't sell & the foreign auto manufacturer will have the market cornered. Rush & everyone who takes him for his ideology of stupidity……. (well I really don't need to say anything more). The low information voter is getting their information from the leader of misinformation/disinformation Rush Limbaugh (Rush the King of Low Information).

I would like to thank Shirley Sherrod for taking a stand against those who intentionally smear (slander) people for political & personal gain. I suggested that she should sue Breitbart in a previous post. " Shirley Sherrod recently said that she will sue conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart who posted a video edited in a way that made her appear racist". American is behind you Shirley & I hope this lawsuit will send a message that this type of garbage by the conservatives needs to stop. Hit them where it hurts them the most (right in their pocket book). That is the soft side of their under belly (money) & the only way to stop the smear campaign. This will get their attention. When Andrew Breitbart writes the big check, we will be seeing real tears, (not the Glenn Beck fake stuff). There is a responsibility that comes with freedom of speech & Breitbart is finding out that defamation of character through slander has a legal price (it is against the law). You might see a fake apology coming out of Breitbarts mouth (protecting the pocket book) now that he is facing legal action. Don't fall for it if he does. He deserves the lawsuit as the consequences of his actions.

This whole issue in Arizona about immigration may well be much ado about very little. Be careful what you ask for because you may very well get it. We may not need more security on the Mexican border at least in the long term. In the June 7, 2010 issue of "Newsweek" an article written by Arian Campo-Flores, called "Don't Fence them in" The Mexican demographics are indicating a significant success in family planning and birth control programs in Mexico. Fertility rates began falling in the 1970's. The birth rate was 6.7 children per woman in 1970 but today the birth rate has fallen drastically to 2.1 children per woman today.

The 2.1 children per woman is what demographers call the replacement level. This year there will be about 750,000 young Mexicans entering the labor force by 2020 that number will be 300,000 entering Mexico's labor force. By 2030 that number will fall to 300,000 young Mexicans entering the country's labor force. Assuming Mexico produces 400,000 to 500,000 jobs per year immigration to the US will fall dramatically if these demographic trends hold. Those same Arizonans crying about "illegal immigrants" today, could well be crying for a lack of young Mexican laborers to clean their bedpans in their retirement homes or pick fresh vegetables or fruit for their kitchen tables in just a brief decade.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

I don't know about that Rex. They are not only fleeing poverty these days, they fear for their lives with the drug wars going on and the notoriously corrupt Mexican officials inability to stop it. Living poor here still has more perks than living poor in Mexico. I don't see Mexico producing that number of jobs unless we keep up the trend of laying off Americans, and exporting jobs down there.
