The OpEd: Could right-wing hate rhetoric lead to violence?

Yes and probably will. It's sad that politics have come to this. The right-wing has become an un-American group trying to convince people that they are the true Americans. Keith Oberman did a commantary the other night where he mentioned the movie 'The American President'. It's one of my favorites. The speech at the end of that movie defines American citizenship. It's something all Republicans should hear.....over and over and over.
The speech explains 'America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. ..... You want free speech, lets see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, whose standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs, that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.'
Nowhere does it mention violence against people you disagree with.
This country was founded on compromise and civility in government. Republicans are so hungup on seeing Obama fail that they can't see the fact that if Obama fails, so does the country. I wonder how much more of this bull.... the country can take. People out here are hurting. They are unemployed, losing homes, living on retirement savings and in some cases losing everything they own. It's time to wake up. The Democrats are in power and if the Republicans are really Americans they will accept that fact and work to resolve our problems instead of making them worse.
People like Sharon Angle saying that if the tea party doesn't win we will use the 2nd amendment, make me nauseous. How un-American!

President Obama & more Democratic Leaders need to go on The Ed Show & communicate their plan with the viewers. They ask for donations all the time, maybe they should speak to us in-front of the MSNBC cameras instead of the FAUX cameras.
They seem to always short change us & are one step behind.

The Republicans gave us their playbook a long time ago. They want to obstruct & make America Fail. They want that failure to be President Obama's failure (Waterloo). The conservatives abuse the filibuster to create gridlock & stop legislation. They are on a fear & smear disinformation/misinformation mission. The Republicans created the hate & fear & violence, now they own it. When will the White House get it? They were given the playbook. They are just figuring it out now after almost 2 years?????????????????????????????

It is Time for the Democratic Leadership to go on the offensive a long time ago & Govern without the Republicans Obstructionists. Change the filibuster rules, use the nuclear option to get it done! Do whatever it takes to use the votes that you have to Govern!

If the White House & President Obama get interviewed by Big Eddie they will have to answer to the questions the progressive base wants answered. They will have to answer to us, our voice. Is that why they are avoiding progressive media? President Obama, you need to have the guts to go on MSNBC & let us know what is next now that we got the first steps in change (health care reform, Wall Street Reform, Credit Card Reform & the rest of the things we are told are the beginning of the step in the right direction toward change). You need to pay attention to the base & independents (those who got you elected) President Obama. You need to energize the base! Are we getting a Public Option or single payer? What it the plan for energy Independence & green energy?

Posted by M, Fargo

M
While I do not agree with many of your views I do agree with you why Mr. Obama would not agree to be interviewed by Big Eddie. Simply put, he has made too many promises to to many groups and can not keep them all.
An example, in order to please the Green wing of his supporters he shuts down drilling in the gulf, AFTER the problem oil well has been capped. This results in putting more Americans on the unemployed list and at the same time increasing our dependence on foreign oil, which surprise surprise, I agree we must get off, but I differ in the way to do so.
Anyway, this is the weakness of the liberal/progressive position. Since the mass majority of Americans are conservative or at least lean in that direction, liberals gain power by gathering as many different minority groups as they can who they then promise stuff in return for their vote.
The problem is liberals/progressives have not sold the majority of Americans that their idea of a strong central controlling government is in their best interest.
At heart Americans still want liberty and they do not believe the government give things without strings attached that reduces their freedom. They do not believe there is a free government lunch.

As to the issue of violence, you don't have to look far to see violence on the left. Look at the recent speeches made by members of the New Black Panthers, the bombing by the Weathermen, of which a couple are still Mr. Obama's buddies. Then look at the violence the Federal Govt has committed against it's very own citizens, Ruby Ridge, Waco Texas, Kent State. So b careful in how much you allow Ed to get you all riled up n this issue.

All Politicians offer and promise stuff in return for your Vote, The only difference the REP policies hurt working people. They leave us setup for to be taken advantage of by corporations, that ruin the environment, that would sell us tainted food, rip us off of our savings and pensions, suppress wages. You need the GOVT to be the REFEREE and blow the whistle and stop play when things get out of hand, that has'nt happened while the REPS had control, and that's why they shouldn't be allowed to do any more damage,or we will wind up with more Enrons, Savings and Loan, or Banking Bailouts in the future. The reason the Govt can't function is because over the years the Majority of People Voted and went along with the idea of smaller Govt, let the REPS over the years remove regulations and safety nets until they got hurt or needed assistance, and now everyone wants things to happen overnight. It's going to take time to correct things. The Voters are going to have to decide if they want to go back to being ripped offed, and dummed down by these Reps and their Buddies, and let them use all kinds of meaningless issues to keep you from looking at the facts of how they mismanaged things. Or you can go forward and keep pushing for restoring and improving our Country.

And as for violence it doesn't take much to send them over the edge, the gentleman that flew the plane into the IRS offices, attacks on Doctors, the gunning down of a Doctor in church, the Federal Building in Oklahoma, A group of militia guys in Michigan, But it's nothing new it's the same type of mentality that was used against the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's

Posted by rob , Chicago

I do not understand WHY the FBI is not ARRESTING this guy who affectively put a form of a "contract HIT" out PUBLICALLY on a US Congressman; Alan Grayson.

This is unbelievable, this guy has offered money for someone to attack a CONGRESSMAN (I don't care what party affiliation) This guy needs to be PUT IN BRACLETS!

Again, where is our FBI?

THAT IS YOUR STORY ED. And frankly, THAT is how you stop this nonsense, put these people making threats (subtle or otherwise) in JAIL!

Posted by Will, Cupertino

Will you're 100% right it's illegal to threaten a public official much less to offer to pay someone to attack them so where is the FBI. Inciting people to violence is illegal every time the hate spewing right gets away with this behavior they become bolder this will inevitably lead to violence, so where is the FBI?
Tim the fact is if the people on Ruby ridge or in Waco had complied to the rule of law they wouldn't have been hurt. In both cases the officers were serving legal paper's and were ambushed. The only Hero's in Waco and on Ruby ridge were the officers who gave their lives defending America.
Anyone that thinks the child molesters in Waco were right to ambush government officials doesn't deserve to call themselves an American.

Offshore deep water drilling does not make us energy independent or increase our dependence on foreign oil. It does not even account for 1%. Once again you are making a statement based on ideology & not factual at all. Deep Water drilling does produce some jobs, but the risk outweighs the benefits. The oil spill lost more jobs for the economy than the amount lost if we stop deep water drilling permanently. An investment in green technology will replace an jobs lost by not drilling. We would gain long term jobs. They oil industry is out experimenting without an clear plan to not let another disaster happen or to stop a leak immediately. Did you pay attention to the fact that there are small leaks from abandoned wells & wells currently in operation.

The man overseeing the US government's response to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has Thad Allen said "seepage detected three kilometres from BP's capped well head is coming from another well. The detected seepage was closer to an older well near BP's blown-out well".
There are two wells within 3km of the blown-out well, one abandoned and another not in production, and Allen added that "it's not unusual to have seepage around the old wells".
There around 27,000 abandoned wells in the Gulf of Mexico and they are not checked for leaks, according to the Associated Press news agency.
So Tim you have no problem with potentially 27,000 abandoned wells going unchecked that are possibly leaking oil into the Gulf? What if small seepage turns into a gusher & they blow a gasket a few years down the road even though it does not put a dent in our energy Independence efforts?
The Government is the only reason you have freedoms & liberties. It is the Government who gives you the protections. Without the Government upholding the constitution, the Constitution is just a piece of paper. If you don't want a Government I suggest moving to a lawless land like Somalia. It is the Corporations that are tying to take away your freedoms & liberties. It is your backwards ideology of "Government Bad" that is allowing Corporate Government to be controlled by powerful special interest & large Multinational Corporations. You got it wrong about a majority of Americans being conservative. It is pretty much an equal divide. The younger generation is definitely not conservative. I don't believe there is a free Government Lunch either.
Show me examples of Democratic leaders ginning up fear & promoting violence. The Republican platform is to scare the hell out of Americans & gin up fear. They gave us their playbook.
President Obama has delivered, but what was delivered is step one in a long process towards a long term goal. I am just waiting to find out what is step TWO. How are we gong to improve the Health Care Bill? Things like that.

Posted by M, Fargo

What you don't get Tim, is we are at PEAK oil production. We could drill every last drop of oil in the United States & meet our energy demands. We would still be dependent on foreign oil. There is not enough domestic oil to make us energy Independence. The only solution to energy independence is to get off fossil fuels. I am all for the most Conservative man on the Planet "T. Boone Pickens" Plan or at least I am for using some of his ideas. Go read this plan Tim http://www.pickensplan.com/ & let me know your interpretation? Maybe we can agree on some of his ideas. I don't want to follow his plan completely, but he has many good ideas towards energy independence. I believe we could adopt some of the ideas & put them in an energy bill yet you don't see the Republican leadership looking at his plan even though he is more conservative than them. Instead they chant "Drill Baby Drill".

Posted by M, Fargo

I meant not meet our energy demands (typo)

Posted by M, Fargo

Ya Know in all of this "chatter" about lost production oil jobs in the Gulf, I do not hear one comment that OBAMA got BP to pony up $100,000,000.00 for those workers that would be out of work or negatively impacted as a result of a drilling moritoreum on 33 deep water wells. So this whole "out of work" argument is mute.

Yet a bigger question might be is WHY did Democrats kill the ENERGY BILL? Why are these gutless representives and administration not seizing the moment and pouring BILLIONS and BILLIONS into electric?

China is.
(I don't want to hear back from any of the righty freak show, please, I surpassed those mindless games in 3rd grade-your ticket has been spent!)

M, why do you continue to "bant" back and forth with that obvious idiot? He probably has 3-4 sites he is being paid to harrass daily, all part of the righty freak show plan - and he can do it from home, you know, just like stuffing envelopes)

M, save your intellect, and your air.

Posted by Will, Cupertino

I agree with you Will:
Exactly, President Obama set up a 20 billion dollar escrow fund paid by BP. He was vilified for doing that & the Republicans apologized to BP. They are also worried BP won't be able to pay us after they just paid us. The Republicans want to shake down the American Tax Payer & not BP.
My theory on the killing of the energy bill & if they do pass it we will be getting water downed bill: is the Democratic Party does not have 60 votes & they don't have the guts to change the filibuster rules to get what ever they want done. The Democrats are fighting for the same corporate money that are controlling the Republican Party. They are afraid of getting out funded by the Republicans by the corporate dollar. It takes money to win elections. The system needs to be changed.

Posted by M, Fargo

The Republicans don't give a damn if a Democratic Leader is a victim of their violent advocating fear mongering rhetoric. They even pray out loud that it might happen, even on the Senate floor. An example: Senator Coburn stated "Pray Someone Can't Make The Vote" geared toward Senator Robert Byrd.
The Republican plan is to make Americans scared of the Government. Tim is a classic example of a victim of the fear mongering. He thinks the Government is taking away is freedoms & liberties when in fact the Government protects those very freedoms. That has to be the most laughable & overused statement of the decade. Try to find a Michelle Bachman or Sarah Palin speech that doesn't use that fear-mongering tactic. They are out of new material & the public is catching on. Same speech over & over & over. That is why I predict Sarah Palin can win in the Tea Party or Republican Party, but on the National scale she will be holding press conferences & refusing to answer questions & running from the cameras. She would have to go into hiding. You know those tough follow up questions based on what she just said or the real difficult question "What do you read?"
When I hear the overused/overplayed freedom, liberty, birth certificate, socialism, Government take over, intrusion, Hitler, Obama-care rhetoric such as between you & your doctor & the predictable catchy phrases I am to the point of: Shut the f@%! Up! That is so old, over-used & to the point that it is laughable. It holds now water & completely based on fear & not fact. The birth certificate the birther nut jobs are after is not even a legal document; they want the one with the baby foot-prints & doctor signature (the one for the scrap book). The legal document birth certificate you need when applying for a job or a passport is not good enough for them. The one issued by the state that is a legal document does not satisfy them They want the novelty birth certificate that you can't use as a legal document for such things like applying for a passport. A legal document with the state seal of Hawaii & certified by the state for some reason is not good enough. That is part of the fear mongering that the false accusation the President was not born here. The facts mean nothing to the conservatives.

Posted by M, Fargo

The Clean Energy bill can not be passed as it is because there are not 60 votes. As usual GOP conservatives beholden to Big Oil and a few corporate Democrats like Mary Landrieu are also balking at supporting the Clean energy bill. However, a smaller bill that help clean up the Gulf oil spill disaster and increases targeted and specific tax breaks for solar, wind, and electric vehicles and natural gas fuel for trucks probably has enough votes to pass in the dysfunctional US Senate. The filibuster rule really needs to be changed because it has become a weapon for the corporate status quo to bring gridlock to our electoral system.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Obama Administration will simply ramp up the EPA regulations under the Clean Air Act. The utility companies will try to overturn this in court but there was a Bush era Supreme Court case that said the EPA must enforce air regulations. This was one of several cases where the state of California pushed for tougher state regulations over the federal ones. So the point is that the EPA will just do by administrative directive and if necessary presidential executive order what the US Senate failed to do legislatively. The clean climate bill or some version of it will someday pass once the conservatives decide to start living in the 21st century.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

Tim, by the way it is President Obama or Mr. President, not Mr. Obama. Is it difficult for you to acknowledge the President? I noticed the Conservative media rarely using the proper term "President Obama".

Posted by M, Fargo

That is some good information Rex. The clean energy bill is another step one & I agree that is because of the abuse of the filibuster by the Republicans that we won't see a strong bill. It takes a super-majority to pass strong legislation & the Democrats don't have 60 votes. Even if we did there is always the Ben Nelson type watering down the legislation threatening to join the filibuster with the Republicans. It will take a filibuster rules change to get strong legislation. I have no problem being patient just as long as we get some direction from the White House about the long term plan to keep making the legislation better (step 2, Step 3....). We need to start pushing for step 2 or letting the White House know what step 2 should be.

Posted by M, Fargo

There has always been and will always be some disconnect between some people. It can be relegion, race, color, politics or ecomonics. The plain fact is that we all have our OPINIONS. They differ and none of are 100% right or wrong. A part of me feels that the media fuels the flames of this and I am seeing and hearing about more cruelty than ever before. It's a shame we have to deal with "children" that have been elected to serve us. Wouldn't it be wonderful if both parties would make a list of our problems, and honestly, take them apart and find ways to change it as a team effort? I am so sick of listening to finger pointing and name blame, but most of all the greed gets to me. I'm glad I am an "oldie" and not someone my grandchildrens age. I can and will now ignore it all and let the chips fall where they may. As Alan Grayson so eloquently put it, "may GOD have mercy on their souls!"

Can right wing HATE rhetoric lead to violence?? YES!! Remmember these folks are the HATERS FROM YESTERYEARS....And violence, murder were part of their agenda. FEAR AND HATE was the driving force.

Instead of them banding together with their felllow poor and middle-class people to better everyone lives, they will stand with a republican party who gives less than a damn about their poor ass..to have a political party to push inequality at their lost. The HATERS WILL cling just to enable and advance the FEAR AND HATE.

America, please stand up to these folks, especially when its time to vote, vote against these so-called tea party candidate, they are undercover HATERS. We as a country has co
me too far to allow these "ol yesteryears HATERS" to take us back to that place.

Nothing, nothing divided by itself can stand. While haters will always be with us, let''s keep them in the minority and silent.

The hate speech promoted by the right winged conservatives promoting racism, intolerance, the "birthers", are really aiding and promoting violence. The hatred of liberals by the right wingers and the ultra-conservatives will stop at no bounds. The conservative media promotes hatred, intolerance, and fear mongering. There are many right wingers who would like to turn America into a form of aristocratic corporate dictatorship where voting is just a formality. There is little doubt that many of these death threats are real and worrisome. The right wingers really are living in another solar system when they want to have congressman Alan Grayson "punched out". The rhetoric is not about substantive policy alternatives, the rhetoric is all about hateful and malicious speech. Remember those vicious and racist attacks on President Obama by those signs carried by the Tea Party?

Remember, Timothy McVeigh was very sympathetic to right winged conservative and ant-government causes. Most of the media in America is owned by Conservatives sympathetic with Republican and conservative causes. The hate, fear mongering, and race baiting have no limits in conservative media. Where are their solutions foreducation policy? Energy Policy? or building up our deteriorating infrastructure? I want conservatives to answer these questions with sources of information. Yet they seem to not do these things perhaps because it is easier to call President Obama nasty names instead of coming up with policies for proper governance.

I sincerely hope they keep this stuff up especially on immigration policy. Conservatives want all of us to start hating Mexican families here to do jobs most of us white middle class people will not do or refuse to do. Those 11 million Mexican families, many with children who are American citizens, work in packing plants, construction work such as pouring hot tar on the roofs of buildings, or as yard landscapers etc. They also work heavily in the fields doing manual labor picking our food we all eat. I wonder what those cranky old white conservative men are going to say some 20 or 30 years from now when Mexicans could be the majority group in America? I'll tell you what will happen to those "illegal Mexicans" they will turn into Mexican-Americans. They will adopt the Anglo culture, speak English, in their work lives supporting all of those cranky retired old white men by working, paying taxes into Social Security, Medicare, and even serving in the armed forces just like they are doing now. Then they will marry and raise their children to do the same. How can conservatives stand such subversive outcomes for our country?

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

Contrast British Prime Minister David Cameron with American conservatives. Mr. Cameron supports global warming initiatives such as reducing carbon emissions throughout Britain. Mr. Cameron, like most British conservatives, supports funding the British National health service. Mr. Cameron does not support the gutting of essential government services for British citizens even though Britain like most countries has a budget deficit. Look at Conservative Stephen Harper in Canada. Has Mr. Harper ever made speeches saying he wants to repeal Canadian government health insurance or he wants to gut the excellent Canadian school and university system?

If American conservatives could be as wise and intelligent as their counterparts in the UK and Canada it would be a great thing for America. Maybe then, America would not be in such sharp economic decline with an antiquated education system, deteriorating infrastructure, and a dysfunctional, twice as expensive health care system that ranks 41st in outcomes for patients. But expecting low information American conservatives to be up to the level of their conservative counterparts in the UK and Canada is nothing but wishful thinking. Canada and the UK actually have good informed political debates about real policies affecting real citizens. Here, most American conservatives have reduced our national politics to hateful sound bites and urinating contests. The classic I love is a conservative who yells: "I want the government out of my Medicare".

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

The Republican leadership & conservatives start by teaching their followers to hate & fear the American Government (What is patriotic & American about that?). Don't forget about those evil taxes that are needed to maintain a society. Then they promote hating liberals, hating the Democratic President & hating those less fortunate (the poor & unemployed). Then they sublimely teach their followers to hate the minorities in this country such as other ethnic groups or the gays. The conservatives use hate, lies & fear-mongering to convince their followers that consumer protections & laws meant to protect are intrusions on their liberties & will take away their freedoms. They preach hating federal regulations on large corporations. This fear mongering is the very thing that leads to discriminating, racism, hate & violence. The Republican Party in my opinion should be labeled the Un-American Republican Party or Anti-American Republican Party. Simply the Republican Party of Hate & Fear Mongering.

Please look at the Picken's plan video. This life long oil man says that competition with China for oil will someday cause the price of oil to go to $200 or $300 per barrel. I agree totally with him on this matter because China and India will want to secure oil reserves in the future for their growing economies. HOW DO THOSE SMITH ELECTRIC TRUCKS PRESIDENT OBAMA SUPPORTS SOUND NOW?

Check into transcripts from Clinton-Bush debates for examples of this being the proper way to address Mr. Obama. Further, find use of President Bush in any of your postings before you lecture me on what is proper.

It would be nice if the conservatives would pull their head out of their ass and start coming up with solutions to America's energy problems. Senator McConnell wants nothing to do with getting a vote on the Clean Climate Bill. Where are Republican alternatives? The silence from the Republicans on energy policy is like that of a deaf and dumb retarded mutant. We are at or near Peak Oil. American domestic production reached Peak oil in 1970 that is FORTY YEARS AGO. "Drill baby drill" means more imported oil, more terrorism, more killing, more maiming, and more death both Arab and American. All for what? So we can have more names on marble walls?

Both Afghanistan and Iraq are essentially wars for oil. Afghanistan's war stems from the 9-11 Al Quaida attacks and 9-11 came from the Persian Gulf war in 1991. Muslims do not like American troops on their holy land of Saudi Arabia. In fact Saudi Arabia and other oil exporting countries fund Muslim extremists groups who in turn recruit terrorists who kill our soldiers seems to not be on the brains of Mitch McConnell or John Boehner. The only thing Republican policies will bring America is more imported oil and tens of thousands of young American soldier's whose names are written on marble walls in wars for oil that will only get worse as India and China drink up more finite oil. LIKE I SAY IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE GOP PULLED ITS HEAD OUT OF ITS ASS AND FOUND SOLUTIONS TO GET US OFF OF IMPORTED OPEC OIL. Jesus Christ our soldiers are dying almost everyday! Conservatives are acting like stupid idiots who ought to be totally ashamed of themselves. Conservatives are acting like despicable and UNPATRIOTIC Americans by serving THEIR Big Oil masters WHO PUT CORPORATE QUARTERLY PROFITS IN FRONT THE LIVES OF AMERICAN SOLDIERS IN A COMBAT ZONE. REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER THAT GOP STANDS FOR "GRAND OLD PETROLEUM" AND 50,000 AMERICAN CASUALTIES. VOTE GOP AND WE CAN HAVE 50,000 MORE AMERICAN CASUALTIES.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

Rex,
If what you write about the war is true, then why doesn't Mr. Obama pull us out?? He doesn't need the Republicans votes to do so, he is the Commander and Chief of all our armed forces.
How is the GOP stopping Mr. Obama from doing what you want? If fact, why do you even bring them up in your rant when your problem is with the President, who with one order could do as you want?
One can only think you bring up the GOP out of habit cause regardless how our troops got their, Mr. Obama has been for the last 18 months the only one who could remove them, regardless of who controls Congress.

Where are the damned solutions for America's energy problems from the Republicans? Get specific with sources of information.

The GOP obstructs President Obama's Clean Climate bill by filibuster but where is the Republican alternative energy plan? Democrats and the President tried to work with the GOP for over a year on energy policy but obstructionism and filibuster is all we get. Does the GOP want more tax breaks for Big Oil? Forget drilling in ANWR because there is at most eight months oil up there. The US has only about two percent of the world's oil reserves. If we relied on our own resources we would be bone dry in less than three years. Does the GOP want to send more soldiers and military resources sent to the Middle East or Africa so we can import more expensive OPEC oil? That is the Republican policy on energy: MORE IMPORTED OIL FROM OPEC COUNTRIES THAT SUPPORT TERRORISTS. How UNPATRIOTIC OF THE GOP. Republicans have no policy on energy except to help large corporate donors make more money from the status quo of imported OPEC oil. Listen to T.Boone Pickens at least he has the start of an energy plan.

Wars are not turned off like a light switch. Guerrilla wars can last for decades. There never has been a solution to the Korean war only an armistice that sometimes turns hot even 60 years on. Vietnam took five years for Richard Nixon to get out off. The President takes advice from the same Joint Chief of staff that advises every president. President Obama did not start Afghanistan or the Iraq war he inherited a bleak and grim situation. It takes time to get out of the wars that others start for you. Obama had two wars so the problems are compounded.

Now ANSWER THE DAMN QUESTION TIM: IF YOU HAVE THE COURAGE: WHAT ARE THE GOP'S PLANS FOR GETTING AMERICA OFF OF IMPORTED OPEC OIL? I demand an answer or else shut up and stop wasting space here.

Be glad to Rex if this Blog will publish what I post. I've had some removed with no swear words in them, unlike your recent post. I guess they address my position too well and they couldn't be allowed to be read?
Since you seem to have an in with Ed or who ever, cause your posts never get removed, maybe you can put a good word on for mine. When you do, let me know and I'll give you my ideas, which might just surprise you.
But about your last post and the war(s). I am not disagreeing with you on who started the war. We all know who was President and we all know which members of Congress voted in support of the action. I just don't get why you rant at the GOP for blocking Mr. Obama from ending the war, when they have no power along with the rest of Congress, to keep it going or stop it. It's up to the Commander and Chief. Your beef is against him and his Joint Chief of Staff for the advise they give him. But in the words of the last great Democrat President,
Harry S. Truman, "the buck stops here".

Help me on this, didn't our current V.P. say while in Iraq a few weeks ago that the war in Iraq was over and we had won? I thought we had already won under President Bush, but what the heck do I know. At least now the victory is official and this Administration can take the credit.
Let me know how my request works out and I'll be happy to share my ideas with you about energy for Americas future.

Progressives Will Hold Democrats Accountable!

Primary Obama in 2012
Category:Organizations - Advocacy Organizations Description:

This group's goal is to provide the momentum for a progressive democratic leader to challenge Obama in 2012 for the Democratic Party Presidential Nomination...

Why?

In 2008, Barack Obama was granted an extraordinary opportunity to lead the country in a bold, new direction. The American citizens gave him a landslide win and a democratic majority in the House & Senate, in the belief that he would truly act as an agent of change.

While no one expected Obama to be able to reverse the decade of damage inflicted by the Bush administration, America did expect him to uphold his campaign pledge to fight for the people over special interests and corporate interests.

We expected him to fight the good fight.

Obama took this golden opportunity and threw it away.

From the trillion dollar bank bailouts to the for-profit corporate written health insurance reform bill, Obam has shown his first priority is protecting the wealthy elite.

Instead of fighting for single payer or a real and robust public option - he allowed the insurance industry to dictate the terms of health reform.

Instead of ending the wars, he increased our troop presence and extended the war in Afghanistan

Instead of holding the Bush administration to account for their illegal war in Iraq, he choose to turn the other way and effectively allow the Bush Doctrine to stand unchallenged.

And, most recently, his utter failure to provide any type of real leadership & character, in the face of the BP oil disaster.... Lisa Jackson (EPA Dir.) toxic Gulf COVERUP, etc.

And, that is the very short list.

In representing corporate interests over the people's interests, Obama made a deliberate and telling calculation. He believes that corporate money is the key to maintaining democratic power. In representing corporations over people, he is assuring mass donations to democratic campaigns.

But, what is the use of democratic power, if it is not used for the people's benefit.

And, if you aren't governing for the people's benefit, why would you expect the people's support in the next election?

This group is the beginning of a national grassroots campaign to find a true candidate for the people, who has the courage and principle to represent citizen's interests over big money - a candidate whom we will work to support in the democratic primary in 2012.

This candidate will be beholden to us.

It is time that we, as a people, take back our political system and demand real representation of our elected officials. But, if we are to win to this fight, we must all commit to a new level of political engagement.

Remember, it was NOT Obama who won the election, it was US. It was our time, energy, passion, blogging, campaigning, money, fundraising that put him in office.

This time, let's put that energy into electing a politician of principle.

Let's all make a commitment to reengage in our country's political system. Holding our President to account is the very first step....

Sec. of State Hillary Clinton has set the stage for her 2012 or 2016 run for the Presidency, and at this point I would welcome it!

She will probably resign as SofS in 2011, Biden to go home and retire, Hillary second term VP, 2016 Presidential run.
That was the deal the Clintons cut with Obama, Inc. to get their support in 2008. She may however not even want to wait until 2016, she may fel that Dems/Libs/Prog/Indys don't want this guy for another 4, run in 12 and get on with it before his turns the Deeeez to an RRRRR's.

President Obama has chosen a terrible "more of the same" team of advisors, I see very little difference between him and the Republicans of the late latter half of the last century. I think because of the extreme right wing behaviors we have witnessed in the last 10-15 years, that when a right leaning corporatist politician; just because he don't pound his chest and speak in 3rd grade syllables we assume because he has a "D" after his name that he is a Democrat. President Obama speaks the speak, but does not walk the walk. Oh yes, of course, they say his intentions are real, he has an obstructionist opposition, his Sen. Leader could make an effort to change Senate rules; but does not. He takes care of all necessary BIG business' first and the peoples needs second. He tripled down on a war everyone (except Generals) says is un-winnable, he underestimated the friends, does not take any bold action as was promised, sides more with Republicans and Blue Dogs than the decent Pelosi Reps. The watered down achievements are starting to come home to roost (as Ed and others predicted a year ago) The polite arrogance IS fooling most Americans, the rest don't have the time in their day (and the administration knows it) to pay attention, and more and more are unemployed each day. Jobs Bill DEAD, energy Bill DEAD (Senates richest Democratic co-sponsor parks his yacht in another state to avoid excise tax-that's in touch?), HC watered down crap, Financial Reform, watered down crap, EPA Lisa Jackson covering poision results of European BANNED Corexit dispersant, jobs continue to be insentivized to export over seas, hundreds of billions of taxable corp. income STILL hidden in the Caymans (just 1 is Stanley Corp.), the administration could if they really wanted to actually affect bold change, but they do not and THAT is KEY. They do not want to REALLY AFFECT CHANGE. And to continue to give this administration a PASS just because they are Democratic is just wrong. This President IS more of the same; and I believe there are dozens and dozen of House Democrats that know it and are probably extremely disappointed in what this administration has truly turned out to be. It is amazing what impact just 2 or 3 wrong (in our opinion) Presidential Advisors have on an administration.

It truly is a shame this President chose to follow the Reagan/Clinton/Bush play books. Lost opportunities.

And WHO will be the last to die in Afghanistan? (for war misstepped judgements old rich guys and young ignorance and the oil/gas and pipelines never to be)

If you want war Mom and Dad? Then put in the draft, and lets all go fight together; and that means your little Jane and Johnny the freshmans @BU, Harvard College, or UCLA - come on put your little Twitter down and lets go do some WAR! - HOO-RA!
(by God Mommy and Daddy will pay attention then won't they?)

More of the same, will get you more of the same. Keep on defending these politicians, they'll keep feeling invincible.

"While no one expected Obama to be able to reverse the decade of damage"

Ten years makes a decade, not 8 years.

Note, not even called Mr. Obama, much less President Obama, poster must be a racist who can't stand having a black man in the White House

I asked a very simple question and again there is no GOP energy plan made available to this blog. Whining and bitching will not cut it here. Clowns offer criticism of the President's policies but offer NO SOLUTIONS OF THEIR OWN. Where are the solutions for getting America off of imported OPEC oil? You Conservatives opposed President Obama's energy plans and not one Republican Senator wished to stop the filibuster on the Kerry-Lieberman Clean Climate bill. REPUBLICANS WANT HAVE THEIR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO ON ENERGY POLICY. The GOP has one energy policy and it is called IMPORTED OPEC OIL. Everyday our soldiers get killed or severely maimed in Afghanistan and Iraq due to roadside bombs many of them made in Iran. The GOP does not give a damn about American soldiers being killed by roadside bombs in either Iraq or Afghanistan. All Conservatives care about is supporting Big Oil with more corporate welfare and tax subsidies. Check out Halliburton and other oil drilling companies associated with Dick Cheney as his career as an oilman.

Republicans are living in a state of TOTAL DENIAL about the most important issue of our times: energy. We are at or very near PEAK OIL. If you the little brains of the Republicans can not fathom this concept THIS MEANS THAT THE DAYS OF CHEAP OIL ARE GONE FOREVER. India and China are building more industrial capacity that will require greater amounts of fossil fuels. The Chinese are also aggressively collecting rights for more oil reserves in place around the world including Iraq. America uses one out of every four barrels of oil everyday. Yet, we have only about 2% of the world's oil reserves in our country. We would go totally bone dry in less than three years on our own reserves this includes ANWR and offshore drilling in restricted places. So the point is the world is at or very near Peak Oil now. America reached Peak domestic oil production back in 1970. Someday in a few years perhaps or at most a decade oil prices are going to become prohibitively expensive. ie $7 or $8 per gallon. Where is the plan for dealing with this by the Senate GOP? The GOP is intellectually bankrupt.

President Obama has wisely pushed electric trucks, lithium ion battery production, and electric vehicles plus a whole range of energy conservation measures. If the REPUBLICANS ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE AN ENERGY POLICY THAN THEY NEED TO SHUT UP AND GO AWAY. President Obama is living in the 21st century. The Republicans are living in the pre-1950's. America will become a failed nation if we do not adopt green energy technology and serious conservation measure that reduce our fossil fuel use in a huge and urgent manner. American conservatives are so ignorant do they read anything other than quarterly corporate profit statements?

Tim: You are a FRAUD or some other GOP hack who comes here to mess up the exchange of ideas on the blog. People who DO NOT offer new ideas, make intelligent arguments, site sources or offer SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS are acting like children. You are wasting everyone's time here. SHUT UP AND GO BACK TO YOUR HOLE OR WHEREVER YOU CAME FROM.

Dear Ed,
Am becoming more and more upset with your show.
We have the right wing media, the radical right, the tea partiers, republicans constantly spreading their propoganda, lies, distortions, hate, anger and the media constantly headlining them, ignoring any accomplishments etc about our president, it disturbs me when you are constantly bashing him.
Of course our presidenty is not perfect, does not always make decisions we agree with, but, he is the best man for the job and sincerely cares about us, our country and our survival.
But he does not need someone who is a dedicated Democrat running him as a president and person down. You need not always agree, Ed, but for crying out loud. The man is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't.
Maybe I am over reacting, but we need commentators to support him and give him credit. How he puts up with it all I don't know as have never seen politics and politicians as they are today. To have a political party whose primary goal is to destroy our president, regardless of the consequences and get the support, headlines they do is a disgrace. So, Ed, please consider your remarks and realize our president needs us behind him.
Thank you,
kathlene

I remember in the 2008 primaries how close Hillary Clintin and Barack Obama were. I also remeber the Obama campaign hinting to racism in the Clinton campaign. Now I see racial overtones all over the place after the Dem's started slipping in the polls. This is a tactic that's been used by the left for years. If the left is so gracious and claims to fight the good fight for the minorities and the poor, why has nothing changed for those people in 30-40 years? Arguably it could be worse than ever with the low test scores, prison rate and children born out of wedlock. This is the same old tired argument used again and again by losers. Need I mention Senator Byrd and the KKK? Come on people, quit drinking that lefty kool aid and start seeing what's really going on here when it comes to race. The question posed by Ed Schultz here is just another lefty tactic to get all of you fired up and believing this crap is true. Racism exixts on both sides of the aisle, in big cities and small towns. We have no place for it in politics. To keep bringing it up without much documented proof is dangerous and irresponsible. What Andrew Breitbart did was nothing more than poor journalism. What the Obama administration did in response was nothing short of poor executive action. As far as the Tea Party goes, Andrew Breitbart has offered $100,000.00 to anyone that can PROVE racicst words were shouted. Keith Olbermann tried, but....funny....there was no audio. For a presidential administration to be scared and reacting to what Fox News may or may not do is telling in so many ways. I'm looking forward to hearing all of you whine AGAIN about how the election was stolen this fall. Face it, the majority of the public does not believe this president is doing what's best for the country. The righties and independants would be just as upset if it were Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi making these decisons on policy. I'd like to quote a famous man from one of the best rap bands ever. "Don't Believe The Hype!"

Daniel, You ask - "why has nothing changed for those people in 30-40 years?"

love the words "those people". (sort of says it all right there)

But to your point as to "WHY has nothing changed..." here a start, they're called Nixon, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, more Bush, Little Bush, and perhaps the Grand Daddy of all Modern Day Destruction, RONALD REAGAN!

My last post to you still remains unanswered and that was can you ensure I will not have my answer to your qustion removed,as I have had in the past?

Oh Mike, I see you're the overly sensitive one here. I said "those people" because I come from a white, middle class family that has fortunately never had to rely on the government for assistance. Therefore, I truly can't identify how hard and frustrating it is when people promise so much but don't ever deliver.

And how short your memory must be. Let me quote Shirley Sherrod's controversial recent speech this past March.

"So I took him to a white lawyer that we had -- that had...attended some of the training that we had provided, 'cause Chapter 12 bankruptcy had just been enacted for the family farmer. So I figured if I take him to one of them that his own kind would take care of him"

Read the last line Mike. That language is far scarier than the my terminology. Stop focusing on Fox News and start looking at the big picture.

If you don't build on the things you have started, you are never going to get anywhere, if you wind up letting the Reps get control you are rewarding them to continue hurting working people. Flailing away swinging and scattering your vote will get you another GWB, didn't you learn from 2000? That's why we're in the fix we are now. Where were all these people back in 2004? If you want to let the REPS keep throwing dirt on you, go ahead and let em get control again, then watch what happens. Don't get FOOLED AGAIN!

ARRRGGGG,

How many time's must I bring to posters attention that according to M of Fargo, we must address the current and former Presidents by their title, IE: President! Failure to do so will bring the cloud of scorn that M has stored in his young skull caused by his/her believing that big govt is the only thing out there to save the "little guy".

Odd but I find it a bit strange told by a poster from Chicago to not be "FOOLED AGAIN".

Tim: Where are your GOP energy policy answers? Shut up if you are not going to ever bother answer a basic question like this? What does the GOP stand for on energy? That's right more imported OPEC oil that way our money can go to Iran to build roadside bombs that KILL AMERICAN SOLDIERS. Evidently you do not care about American soldiers just corporate profits for big oil.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

Ed,
Does it bother you that President Obama will not come on your show? Did it bother you when he chose Bret at FOX over you?
I have a test for you also, can you go one complete show without mentioning, Glenn, Sarah, Bill, or any other person associated with FOX? Can you do a show without commenting on what they have said? Just report the news without your one sided commentary?
Hey, and why can't you and all of your followers stop using the items that require oil right now? Why wait. Do what you preach, you will not use any item that relies on oil in its production.
Ed you might have a problem though because I think you might need some kind of oil product to torch 30 Rock. You know the place you threatened to burn down.
Whose the violent one Eddie?

And you have no idea, in my bones, in my very soul! In my heart! I want to kick Fox's ass! I want to drive them into the ground! I want to spike the ball! I want to kick 'em in the teeth on the way back to the huddle! And then I want to turn around and lift my leg on 'em! Because that's all they're worth!

Ed, does this sound violent to you? I bet the person that said this really needs some anger management classes or maybe a few nights in the local mental ward.
What do you think?
