The OpEd: Has President Obama had enough to the GOP complaints on Health Care?

Posted on Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Big Eddie says President Obama gave the GOP a spanking today.

Linda Douglass of the White House says the President has always said he is for a public option.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-MD, says we want to have the framework that shows that all of America is united behind health care reform.

Hey Ed, whoever wrote the above must have had too many cool ones, eh?

The president was right on target today when he said a public option will keep the insurance companies "honest". (Amazing how he can imply the total dishonesty and gouging by the insurance industry with this simple statement). And then he hit a home run when asked whether a public option would be unfair to private companies by answering the "conservative reporter" with words to the effect "I thought the government wasn't good at running anything... how could a public plan be a threat to a well run private company?

In my opinion, President Obama has the majority of American people on his side on this issue, he needs to whip his own party into shape, disregard the Republicans if they disagree and get this done!

Keep up the great work Ed... I watched your TV show today and listened to your radio show.

The Democratic Party can pass any health care plan they choose because they have enough votes if they all vote united. It is time to put the Republicans in the rear view mirror & push a public option (single payer) through. I say show some spine Democrats & muscle single payer so all Americans can get affordable quality health care with out the for profit insurance in between you & your doctor dictating & denying care. The public is in favor of it & it is the public who has to convince the 10 Democrats & all 40 Republicans who are obstructing a public option from happening. The Republican generic bullet points against public option health care are a bunch of lies & it was great to see President Obama expose one of the lies. On one hand the Republicans tell you Government Health care is going to be bad & on the other hand they tell you it will be so great it will put private insurance out of business. Which one is it??????????????????????????

Ed,
I am still waiting for the Minnesota Supreme Court to make a decision. Minnesota voters deserve swift action & Senator Al Franken needs to be seated ASAP. I ask again, What is going on with the Minnesota State Supreme Court????????? AL could be the 60th vote.

How to pay for health care; let us see!

Stop the Mideast wars! leave now! how do we leave? ON SHIPS AND PLANES.

Stop foreign aid! They only spit in our face anyway.

Tariffs on all goods not made in America! To hell with the Globalist New world order shysters!

As an aside; I read Bibi Netanyahu was condemning Iran for human right violations. That is a hoot! Bibi " The great Tormentor" Mr Iron Fist, Iron boot ,Iron Head! SHAMELESS Murderer and thief.

The time has come to dump any attempt at a "Bi-Partisan" bill on Health Care.

The Rats don't care about people without Health Care, even when the majority of Americans who do not have health care are children 5-years old or younger. Parents loose their job, kids loose their health care and the Rats basic approach is "So The Hell The What."

We all need to keep the pressure on the 10 senators who are in bed with the insurance companies. Here are the 10 Democrats that are reluctant to embrace the public plan option:

Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR)
Senator Tom Carper (D-DE)
Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA)
Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR)
Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL)
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC)
Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND)
Senator Max Baucus (D-MT

They make me sick. Without people like Big Eddie S. we would have zero chance. President Obama better not cave in. We all need to get involved and take to the streets---whatever it takes, do not let that gang of 40 keep us from public insurance option. The bottom line, we want true health care reform. Thank you Mary Carol Farber, from the state of Illinois, Obama Land!

Mr. Muffly, I can not agree more with your aside. Netanyahu is a criminal whose government of israel murdered Gazans by the thousands and we saw little of the vicious brutality inflicted on the hapless Gazan Arabs, 336 children killed.

BIBI Has no standing to even open his mouth on what Iran is up to. Israel/Iran 2 peas in one pod!

Ed,

I'm sick in tired of these spineless so-called Democrats… If the Republicans would have won the election by the margins we did .. we would be living in a Fascist state, being told of the mandate of the people and having all their inane beliefs shoved down all our throats. In fact they did that after the election in 2000, and they didn't even win the popular vote..
We better get single payer system for health care or I'll NEVER support theses BOZOs again . especially President Obama. This is the single most important issue of my lifetime and I thought we finally have the will and the votes to get it done. Maybe we made a mistake supporting Obama.. as much as I did not trust and dislike Hillary, I now feel she would have delivered on this issue. I say let the Senate pass the a single payer plan and let them filibuster it.. and call them out on it and show them for what they are…….
Keep it up Ed .. don't give up and don't surrender … Thanks for fighting for those of us that can't be heard..
Jim in Corvallis Oregon

PS I called Sen Wyden's office and told them we got rid of Gordon Smith and we can get rid of him too if he doesn't get on board with a Government option plan

YOU PEOPLE SHOULD READ WHAT YOUR WRITING ,THIS IS A TRILLION DOLLAR PLUS DEAL ,AND NEEDS DEBATE UNLIKE THE STIMULUS THAT WAS RUSHED THROUGH , SOMETHING OF THIS MAGNITUDE NEEDS THE AGREEMENT OF BOTH SIDES , THAT'S HOW THIS COUNTRY IS FOUNDED ON ,YOU REMEMBER A BALANCE OF POWER ,ITS ACTUALLY GETTING SCARY BECAUSE ITS SOUNDING MORE AND MORE LIKE A SOCIALIST NATION THE WAY YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ,THAT'S HOW THINGS ARE DONE IN VENEZUELA ,,YOU GUYS AND GALS SHOULD TRY READING THE CONSTITUTION

How about Public Option on paying taxes.

Posted by Justin, Mankato, MN

Mikey66 - You have your opinion but I disagree. There has been nothing fair about the current health care system. Americans are willing to pay for a single payer system. We already pay thousands of dollars each year for substandard coverage and rescission at the whim of a bean counter working for the corporate insurance companies so their CEO's can make more millions per year. Give me break! People are going bankrupt who have health care and millions of American are going without health care. How is this fair?

We need the option for a Single Payer plan... NOW! The Dems opposing this better get on board because they'll be booted out in the next elections and we'll replace them with people that aren't on the big pharma/insurance payolla. And I really don't care if the Republicans like it or not. I voted for Obama to change America for the better and this is one of the most important issues as far as I'm concerned.

Posted by Steve from Hawaii

When did the media stop talking about single payor, universal health care and start talking about "a public option" ? This is a much vaguer term and more easily manipulated by pols.

Posted by Joyce Dunn

Hey Mikey666
The GOP is NOT INTERESTED in health care they want ALL the money to go right into the pockets of the very few rich who will in turn finance the GOP. all this crap about cost and doc blocking is about delaying the help we all need until congress adjourns for yet another break which will then go into the midterm elections-meantime Americans are going broke and or dying for lack of a plan. With the boomers getting older every day the cost of delay will just get higher.
once more THE GOP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU AND ME, WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!!!!!!!

Posted by rico, Chattanooga,TN

Ed you grabbed my attention. I mostly hang out on the sports news blogs and comments. While watching your show today on Sanford (hypocrite) and Public option issues your views are right on the bulls eye. Obama would not loose my support, but he has to make the Public option his #1 priority. Republicans like to get there groove on to. They just are not yet mature enough to admit it. lol Good job

Posted by jeff blanks, san antonio TEXAS

The public option is crucial, not only for families but for our economic well-being as a nation. Keep up the fight Ed.

Health care and Senator Blanche Lincoln have become my favorite blog topics.

Posted by Uncle Brice, Arkansas

> "The Democratic Party can pass any health care plan they choose because they have enough votes if they all vote united.

Okay let's be real here. the Dem are NOT unified, NOT BY A LONG SHOT.

Too many people think that because the Senators are Democrats that they all think the same.

Forget about the mess in Minnesota with Franken. There are almost TEN (10!) sitting Dem Senator that have SPECIFICALLY and PUBLICALLY stated they will NOT support a public plan regardless of anything else.

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/ad-campaign-on-health-reform-targets-finance-panel-2009-06-19.html

Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR)

Senator Tom Carper (D-DE)

Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA)

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR)

Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL)

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)

Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC)

Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND)

So before anyone starts speaking about "We have 60 Dem Senators" suggesting the Dems are a UNIFIED collection in this matter, the better statement is that you better get 60 Senators who are dedicated to passing a public option REGARDLESS of party. Because right now, there simply is NOT enough votes from the SITTING Senators to get any public option passed. PERIOD.
