NRA President David Keene says the NRA's meeting at the White House with Vice President Joe Biden wasn't really a conversation, just two parties stating their positions. Keene also said the NRA doesn't believe an assault weapons ban will pass. Watch it.

How about a credit check on gun buyers....we don't have to buy a gun(s) they are a luxury item like a vehicle. We can't buy a house, car or truck or piece of farm equipment with out a credit check. Bad credit score..can't buy a gun. That should be in the bill VP Biden is working on

donnaJoy.....New Town State Rep. Debra Hoovey ..(.Repub 112) posted on her facebook page telling Gabby Giffords, " stay out of my town." Hoovey later said her comments were insensitive and apologized if she offended anyone....I am offended for Gabby....This rude, mean-spirited behavior is second nature to all the repubs in office.

I've posted this before.

The 2008 Supreme Court decision in Distric of Columbia v Heller declared that the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to "keep and bear arms", but it also basically limited that right to the home.

Section lll of the majority opinion, written by Justice Antonin Scalia, clearly states that the 2nd Amendment rights are not unlimited. It also says legislation regulating commercial sales of firearms or banning them in certain areas does not violate 2nd Amendment rights.

The problem is, most people look at the 2nd Amendment and never bother to read the Supreme court rulings. They would find the high court does not hold their opinion of what that Amendment says.

Linda, Virginia -Thou the response from your congressman was negative, I feel that we need to continue to put pressure on him and the other gun loving/people hating congressional members to do the right thing and what many Americans want. I believe that we have the wind at our backs considering the NRA only succeeded .83% in the 2012 elections. The mainstream conservative media continues to stretch the truth and tries to convince us that the NRA has more power than it really does. The NRA just speaks louder and has an excellent marketing strategy but we have people power as evidenced by the election of President Obama and the new Democrats in the Senate and the House.

I applaud Gabby and Mike Kelly was initiating a group that can compete on the same level of the NRA. We cannot forget what happened to Gabby and the others who were gun down in Arizona or the 20 young children plus 6 adults massacred in Newtown. These horrific events as well as in Aurora, Colorado must give us the impetus to fight as hard as we can to change our laws so that we can protect each other better.

I contacted my congressman regarding a ban on assault weapons......today I received my response. I want to share my letter with you....

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Second Amendment. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

As you know, the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads: " the right of people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." While some may disagree, I believe the plain language of this Amendment guarantees the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms of their choosing. I do not want to mislead you; I strongly oppose limitations on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding, mentally fit gun owners. While we may not agree on this issue, I look forward to working with you on the many challenges facing our nation.

If I may be of further assistance to you on this....yadyadaadayada

I don't see anything in the second Amendment about "of their choosing." When this Amendment was written how many choices did the people have? There should be some Amendments to the Amendment....

Trying to get a republican to do the right thing, is like beating a dead horse to death. They are determined to stand in the way of progress to make President Obama look like a loser when in fact he is the winner. The repubs are dragging their feet and voting on things that passed decades ago. This is deliberate..... in an effort to run out four more years without passing a jobs bill or any meaningful democrat bill. Their plan is a hugh ground game..using Obama's ground game against him in 2014 to win the senate back.. We have to stay out in front of this and not let the repubs get the upper hand.
