General Colin Powell endorsed President Obama for re-election, only to have Romney surrogate John Sununu essentially allege Powell only endorsed him because he's black. Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, General Powell's former Chief of Staff, joins Ed to discuss it. Watch as Colonel Wilkerson, a Republican, says "My party is full of racists."
It's a shame that Colin Powell joined the George W. Bush administration as little shrub's lap dog. General Powell had as much credibility, in my opinion, as Dwight D. Eisenhower. Then, he delivered that speech to the UN about the need to wage war with Iraq. Powell will never starve, but he'll also never be President of the United States, and his credibility to pick presidential winners and losers has little credibility.
It's really too bad.
The good side of the flap over Powell's blackness is that it shows how racist modern Republicans are. I might say that Powell is a black light, fluorescing Republican racists.
For that, I am grateful.

This is so powerful because it's so true. A new AP poll shows a majority of Americans have racist feelings towards African Americans. I suppose they only polled white Americans, who knows. How do you even take a poll like this? I am alarmed at the overt racism that's out there, and I'm depressed. We must fight back against the hate and continue to progress.
TAX THE RICH, hell, let the tax cuts expire and tax everyone! Time to call out the radical thugs.

forgot to mention the other GOP defense is to say "they do it too".....well if you think that's bad then you must think what the left did is equally as bad or worse is a common Radical Republican defense to justify their actions.........

Great points Ron.............that is exactly what the GOP Racists do every time we call them out for being racist..........they "play victim" & then "point the finger" with the phrase "race card" while crying how horrible it is to be called names such as racist, bigot, intolerant & etc.........so we need to keep calling "it what it is" while "never backing down".........it is what it is & those who use racist words & racist actions deserve the backlash.........

I have commented about the people here that call themselves gop/tea party conservatives. When they are confronted with their racist remarks they simply say who cares. Well some of us do care as we believe the time for intolerence is over and it is time to move on.
The gop/tea party is a party that promotes not only intolerence towards minorities, but non-christian religions, women's rights (not just health rights but all rights), and the men and women who are gay. They are the party of racism and hate and are being called out for it. It is hard to hide when supporters of the party dont speak up against the signs showing the president has hitler, a communist, a muslum, and showing him hanging. What do they not think this is racist?????
They then want people of these groups to support and vote for them, and I must say they will say to these people we are not racist, but we are being called that by the left wing media....We are the victims because the left calls us names like racist, intolerant, and haters. I say to the gop/tea party conservatives if the shoe fits wear it as you are bigots, racist, and haters so live with it.

This is the Republican Party Platform.........its OK to be racist, just don't be too racist........that way you can play victim when called out for being racist................

Racism is practically in the Republican Party Platform:
The Republican Party is fueled by Racism................
I am predicting the Ryan/Romney ticket will cheat in Wisconsin & try to steal the election through Wisconsin.............keep your eye on Wisconsin
Speaking of Wisconsin...............Paul Ryan & the Wisconsin Republican Party gladly accepted Stimulus money while trying to keep it under the radar..........hypocrites.........we are against it in public, but all for it behind closed doors.............dirty little right wing secret.

I just can't help but continue to think that the very party that espouses pro life and family values continues to make it harder and harder for those families to survive. More of the same Bush policies will lead to more of the same misery.
And isn't "pro life" supposed to mean "all life"?? So only white Presidents get respect, is that what it's all about GOP?
Well I agree with what another poster said then. Sununu supports Romney because he is white.
I don't know anyone who doesn't have the utmost respect for Colin Powell. He would be about the last politically motivated person I know. Millions wanted him to run for President but he was more interested in spending his post Bush years helping charities and supporting veterans. He didn't become a lobbyist like so many do to line their pockets.
The fact Romney will not blast Sununu given all the horrific things he keeps saying says more about Romney than it does about Sununu, a "naturalized" citizen not born here.

A Republican with the sand to tell it like it is. Of course they're racist. It's bloody obvious. I've never seen such hate for a President since the day he was sworn in. They have been beside themselves since a half Black was elected, tossing insult after insult his way. Of course they play the denial game suggesting anyone who calls them racist is racist for bringing it up. Thats who they are. The party of retro whites only and colored bathrooms, that wants to live in the past in the 21st. century.

Col. Wilkerson was very effective last night on the Ed Show. He had the inner strength to say what he as well as some other Republicans feel about the fanatic leaders that are now running the party. The Col. showed his anger, which a military man is trained to hide, because as an American, he knows that racial comments are inappropriate and have no place in a presidential campaign. I would venture to guess that other conservatives may take his lead and support the President for re-election.
