Papa John Schnatter's Unapologetic Greed
posted by Ed Staff | Wednesday, August 08, 2012

john-schnatterPapa John Schnatter, founder and CEO of Papa John's, is no fan of the Affordable Care Act.  In a recent conference call, Schnatter made it known that when the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented in 2014, it will result in a 15 to 20 cents cost increase per order, which he will be passing on to consumers.

Schnatter, a Romney supporter with a net worth estimated at 240-million, recently hosted a fundraiser for Romney at his home in Kentucky, during which Romney marveled at the opulence of the estate, saying "Who would’ve imagined pizza could build this. This is really something. Don’t you love this country? What a home this is, what grounds these are, the pool, the golf course…"

The question we're left wondering is this.  Isn't fifteen cents per order a small price to pay to ensure every one of your employees has health coverage?  Taking it one step further, couldn't a business as successful as Papa John's absorb fifteen cents per order and not pass it on to the consumer?  There was a day in America where businesses would absorb costs, advertise it, and the result would be increased brand loyalty from cosumers who appreciated the effort.  What's wrong with the picture when the idea of absorbing a cost increase is considered naive?

At any rate it's probably time for all of us to take note of the prices on the menu at our local Papa John's joint.  Right now at our local Papa John's, an Extra Large (really it's just a large, but Papa John's is one of those joints that tries to cheap out on you by having a 14-inch large) with one topping (pepperoni) is $14.00.  Delivery charge is $2.75.  When that price goes up, we'll let you know.

What's the price of a Papa Johns extra-large one-topping where you are?  Track the price increases. #papajohnsprices

I made an error, in the General Mills section, it should read, Cascadian Farms, brand. I did not know that many of these brands were a part of these companies. It was a real shocker to me, to say the least. Please do your part to let people know about this. This is the food we eat people. We better take it seriously!

I never gone to either Papa Johns or Chik-fila, and don't ever intend to do so, just like I avoid Wallmart like the plague.

Now, I am adding a whole host of other companies to my bad list. The next time you take a swig of Odwalla's natural carrot jiuce, or munch on a bowl of Orville Redenbachers organic popcorn, take note. A lot of organic and popular natural brands are made by companies that are spending thousands of dollars to defeat proposition 37, the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Act.

Donations are pouring into the campaign to defeat Prop. 37. Among the big Donors like J.M. Smucker, Hormel Foods, Kellog, Coca-Cola North America, and Pepsico. Companies that make a fortune marketing natural and organic brands, with slogans like"We're good to the earth. I call this a bunch of bullshit. Most of these brands are not truly organic anyway, in the true sense of the word.

All of these companies are members of the powerful Washington DC based "Grocery Manufacurer's Association".(GMA), a multi million dollar trade organization, which represents America's $ 1.2 trillion "Big Food Industry"! The GMA its-self has allready pitched in $375.000 to the anti-labelling campaign. And it is still early in the game.

The GMA has more than 300 dues-paying members, many of whom are purveyors of popular natural and organic", so-called, Organic"? These companies have either developed, these brands or have purchased organic brands to tap into the growing market for organic, and natural food, and their sales on natural foods is estimated at around 50 Billion, and sales on organic foods is around an estimated 30 Billion.

Kraft, and Safeway are also members of (GMA). You would think that Supermarket chain Safeway, which markets its-self under the slogan," Ingredients for Life", really would stand up to such a thing not join along in the deception.

Here are a list of companies, and what they have contributed dollar wise against the campaign.

J.M. SMUCKER-$ 20,395.80.And their organic product list is as follows: Santa Cruz Organics. Smuckers organic peanut butter, R.W. Knudsen, Natural Brew, Tenderleaf Tea.

Hormel Foods, $ 19,657.70 with the brand, Natural choice.

General Mills,$ 19,400.28, with the brands, Cascadian Far, . Muir Glen, and Gold Medal organic.

Bimbo Bakeries, $ 17,783.30, with the brand, Earth Grains.

Del Monte, $14,400.28, with the brands Del Monte brand organic pickles, .Del Monte brand, organic canned tomato products, and Fruit Naturals.

Hershey- $8,440.28 and the brand Dagoba.

Cargill $5,424.94 their brands White-Wave/silk, Horizon, and Organic Cow Of Vermont.

Campbell Soup Company- $5,340.56. Brands-V-8 Organic, Prego-Organic, Swansan's Organic, Pace Organic, Campbells Organic,Bolthouse Farms.

McCormick Spice Company- $ 5,302.10 -McCormick Organic Spices.

More companies like the following, gave big bucks to make sure that nothing is ever labelled for the consumer. "Pepsico- gave $ 90,220.06. brands tostitoes organic, tropicana organic, and naked juice.

Coca-Cola gave a total of $ 61,208.60, with Odwalla, and Honest Tea.

Con Agra Foods, gave $ 56,598.50 and have Orville Redenbachers Organic, and Hunts Organic, and Alexia Foods, and Lightlife-!

Kellogs- gav e $33,248.40, and have Keebler Organic, and Bear Naked"- and Kellogs Organic, and Morningstar Farms, and Kashi", and wholesome and Hearty"!

I am outraged at what if going on here. We, the Consumer, have a right to know, what is in the food items we purchase at the grocery store. I am outraged at Safeway, for their blatant hypocrisy, using their slogan, Ingredients for Life", and then turning around and being a part of this desception. I am telling all of you this, so maybe you will spread the word and join me in never buying one drop of anything from any of these companies, Maybe if we hit them where it hurts in their pocketbook, they will put a stop to all of it. It is just more of this attictude, make money at any cost, and we don't care who we hurt, or who we decieve! People we need to send this across the country, and tell people to stand up to it. We as consumers, have the right to know if the food we purchase contains GMO's- PERIOD!!!!!!!

I never go to to Papa John's for pizza and now never will. The greed and arrogance of this man is astonishing as he would expect customers to pay more for the increasing cost of food supplies and equipment. I'm sure he'll take advantage as the price of dairy products will increase as a result of the continual use of corn for ethanol and now the drought. I work in a popular health food store where the price for whey protein has been increasing every few months. It's due to the fact that whey is made from dairy products but it's costing more for farmers to feed their cattle and chickens corn products. It seems to me that it's big business, as usual, that's making a profit.

Perhaps Americans should think about all the fat, cholesterol, carbs and sodium that they're getting when buying pizzas. Maybe we should opt for the Chinese restaurant that gives us a good meal with lots of vegetables at a reasonable price.

I'm sure that he demands excellence from his employees, but doesn't care about giving them adequate health care. Yet, I'm sure that he and his family have the best coverage possible. Also, I'd like to know his religious affiliations. It seems that many call themselves Christians when they feel that it would eat into their profits to see that others have the same health care that they can afford.

The greed of him and the rest of the Romney rich is amazing, they have enough money for 100,000 lifetimes, they must be planning to buy themselves more years at the end, live to maby 150 or 200, and when they die they plan to take the money with them and buy themselves a higher place in heaven, maby even sitting next to Mary!

Hey Gloria the list is huge and boycotting all the villains would require eating grass and drinking rainwater. Mitt and Bain own AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Clear Channel Communications, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, Dunkin' Donuts, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Staples, Toys "R" Us, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel. Add the Koch brothers holdings, Charles Schwab, TDAmeritrade, Menard's, Amway, the firearms industry, all of the oil companies and oil related businesses, the hedge funders, Godfather's, Amway products, the ---- in Idaho, the Cargill family, Johnson Wax, Archer-Daniels-Midland, ATT, Verizon, the insurance industry, big pharma, ... I'm exhausted and I'm just getting started. How about a deck of cards with America's greediest like they did with Saddam Hussein's cronies.

Haven't eaten one in years anyway, that heartburn on a shingle isn't what I call pizza. Is he going to cut back on the fabulous benefit package of his pizza delivery people? This is one more story where were supposed to feel sorry for a mega millionaire. I've never seen such unprecedented glorification of greed in this country along with a legion of morons cheering them on.

It is all about Mitt Romney's Economic Business Model being a disaster for our Economy

Mitt's tax returns & financial disclosure represents his economic model for our country............Mitts business model & tax returns have everything to do with the economic recovery & American Jobs.....................Mitt Romney needs to stop hiding behind his tax returns.............we need to focus on why Mitt Romney's business model will make things worse.............it is the wrong kind of economic model..........it throws the middle class under the bus..............
Mr. Fargo
